One thing you have to understand on attendance is NDSU was averaging 6,000 fans in the 80s as a d2 team. We were playing meaningful games back then. The women's team was the top d2 draw in the nation, sometimes giving the mens team a run for their money. When we moved up to D1, attendance went down because our schedule sucked. We weren't playing many meaningful full games either since we were not eligible forthe post season and played an independent schedule. When we got a shot at the Big schools, we were not only competitive, we won many of them. Ask Wisconsin and Marquette. Ask Bobby Knight. We almost beat Wyoming last year. We were down by 2 points to Kansas in the big dance with 5 minutes to play. We hung with a top 10 ranked Minnesota and #1 ranked Indiana. Believe me with a new stadium we would sell out regularity. NDSU doesn't half ass anything. And it would be tough in the MVC but competition makes you better and we would improve our program .

As far as recruiting goes. A big time league doesn't need to market to only big markets. If thats the case go get New jersey IT. I see the MVC on national tv all the time. Players will go to a big time league because, well, its a big time league. Besides, the Sioux Falls metro that covers IA, MN, SD, and NE has a million people. Fargo-Moorhead within a 100 mile radius has a half million. That's adequate and we mag have an opportunity to get games on fox sports north, which is very big. When NDSU makes an effort they get exposure out there. Think football. Last year we had 6 regular season games on ESPN3, 1 on gameplan, 2 on Fox College sports, and all regular seaon games were on statewide tv. Thats before the playoffs started. Yes i know, were talking about basketball but ndsu has shown when the product is good, they will get the product on national tv.

We won't be playing in the dome again unless we have to while our main arena is being renovated, our coach does not like playing there.

I don't think we are a flight risk for football. We've wanted to be in the MVC and MVFC since day one. I think the only way we'll move to the FBS is if the MVFC wants to move in that direction.

This issue really depends on what direction the Valley chooses to go forward with once Creighton and maybe Wichita leaves. Valley fans need to come to terms with the fact that this league without CU or WSU (or both) is solidly a 1-bid league. With that in mind, perhaps the league will become more open minded toward merging the MVFC with the MVC and putting a focus on either high caliber FCS or possibly lower end FBS football (or maybe even concentrating on the inevitable middle tier of football that will likely be created once the BCS powers form superconferences). If football does become a focus for the MVC, the league would be stupid to not include the Dakota States.

However, if the Valley wants to continue to be a bball focused league, Murray State, Valpo, Loyola, ORU, and UIC are the more obvious choices. That said, replacing CU or WSU with one of these schools hardly makes the MVC more relevant than the Horizon or MAC in bball.

I will say, with the proper resources at hand I think both NDSU and SDSU could develop into UNI-like bball programs. Adding exposure to the twin cities market should also not be overlooked.

I for one would like to see this league focus more on football. What we are seeing with this Catholic League and emphasis on basketball is anachronistic. Football is what is going to control things for the forseable future. And there are several schools in this conference that care more about reaching FBS than reaching the Sweet Sixteen. This league needs to decide if it is going to be entirely about basketball or if it is going to be more representative of what we are seeing from every other league sans the C7 in realignment. I think that the schools without football in this conference with the exception of CU are going to find that they don't really have other options. They are going to need to compromise for the great good. And they ultimately will.

There's nothing anachronistic about the money that FOX is waving in front of the C7 ADs and Presidents.

I have watched their baseball, softball, and volleyball teams in person before and they just carry themselves like a big time program. I can't really explain it. They just are a first class organization. My intuition just tells me that they will be winners, big winners if they come to the Valley.

With the way things have gone for Minnesota in most sports I really feel like an NDSU in the MVC could come close to 50/50 in terms of support in the Twin Cities. We tend to laugh at the smallness of North Dakota, but remember they get a ton of athletes and support from Minnesota which is just a one show kind of state. And with Tubby and Jerry Kill that show is mediocre.I like North Dakota State a lot.

Classy post thank you. NDSU is a regional school Boise State/Gonzaga of the Midwest.

Jays fan. Basketball only schools should not have to look down their noses at NDSU. We would help the mvc

NDSU will play in new $32mill arena not fargodome

Exaggerate much? Sioux Falls metro area has less than 230,000.

Adding the Dakota schools would be a disaster for the MVC. I would guess that the programs with the larger budgets like WSU would look for other options.

According to the 2010 US census

Population (2010)
• City 153,888 (US: 152nd)
• Estimate (2011) 156,592
• Density 2,109.2/sq mi (814.4/km2)
• Metro 232,433 (US: 191st)

Yeah, NW Iowa, the rest of SD minus Sioux Falls, SW MN and NE Nebraska are all very very sparsely populated. I would be less people care about SDSU in Sioux Falls than UNI fans in Iowa City and Iowa City has less than half the population of Sioux Falls.

yea, NDSU doesnt care about south dakota or sioux falls, plenty of fans in Fargo and Minnesota.
Matter of fact, NDSU had 30,000 at the METRODOME for gopher football game in 2009.

NDSU is a regional school, but these guys are right, nothing in south dakota.

NDSU should push MVC to add NDSU SDSU and make the football a FBS League. Money would come into the conference and bowl tie in's would help as well. Marketing/Exposure alone would help you Basketball Only fans as well.
