If 22 is the case, wouldn't that pretty much force teams to only schedule D1 teams and then be selective in doing that?

We don't have the luxury to be selective. It's so hard to get games and especially home games because the P5 have driven up prices dramatically.

Trust me, I do get it. I just think of the non P6 (in Hoops) teams out there, there should be like mindsets and objectives in helping one another build resumes, NET ratings, etc. I see no reason why there shouldn't be more MVC/MWC/A10/MAC/SoCon/WCC crossover games.[/quote]

I 100% agree with this but unfortunately I strongly doubt that the MWC A10 and WCC (as long as Gonzaga remains a part of it) see it that way. I think these leagues (especially the first two) see themselves as too good to be playing Valley schools except on occasion but nothing on the level of a concerted effort to ensure crossover games. Remember the MWC had a challenge with us that they abandoned and went with the A10 before I believe COVID scuttled that one and the A10 just poached our top team they probably see no reason to do a bunch of crossover games with a league they (wrongly) consider lesser than their own.

Very interesting information in this article.

1. Moved quickly because of a conference commissioners' meeting in early February I wonder what that meeting will entail that necessitated moving so quickly.

2. Matt Brown's report that NKU was considered was confirmed here albeit to a lesser extent than the other candidates mentioned.

3. That budget is massive and if they decide to invest in men's basketball even more they could be a juggernaut. That's a reason to get excited.

4. Interesting note on the effect of UIC's membership on league demographics and the university's overall profile in relation to other MVC schools. There's a lot to like here.

UIC brings a lot to the table. When you look at the whole picture, I am very excited about the Flames. Getting into the MVC will give them a great jump start for a major turnaround. In a short amount of time we won't recognize them as the same team,

That’s a good addition to The Valley, and it keeps Chicago in the mix as far as media coverage. Heck Valpo will get local coverage at least twice a year now. lol. UIC, should they choose to commit to winning, be a formidable conference member going forward. My question, however, is given the resources why aren’t they more competitive now?

I’d keep Northern Kentucky on speed dial in case someone else leaves, or membership status changes. Very good facilities, and the Cincinnati/N. Kentucky market is a good place to be.

Those games with the A10/MW /etc are available if you've got two coaches that are safe enough to take a loss and willing to go on the road.

Northern Kentucky was unwilling to meet Valley financial standards, as of now at least.

Good info, I did not know that. Seems short sighted on their part, but they’ve been growing and upgrading, so maybe it’s timing thing?

Or maybe they've about maxed out at least as of right now. I'm pretty sure the oft cited D1360 video had their enrollment declining as well as numerous other colleges. They weren't declining at the level of say Wright State or Little Rock but they were declining more than Murray State for one. I was actually quite surprised at how relatively well insulated Murray State had been so far from that overall trend. I hope that continues to be the case.

I mentioned in an earlier post that investing in a program doesn't give the AD the ability to evaluate coaching talent. That was the case with our two prior hoops coaches who were hired by ADs that didn't have that evaluative ability. Our current AD has done a good job in hiring coaches. Our other sports are very competitive and finish near the top of the conference standings.

UIC has been a member of the Horizon League since that league formed in 2001. Prior to that it was in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference since 1994.

How does a prominent national reporter like Norlander not know the MCC and the HL are the same league?
