2010-2011 Attendance

Postby pafan » April 27th, 2011, 10:52 am

In 174 games hosted at MVC arenas, including Arch Madness, the MVC was 8th in average attendance per game at 7,187. That's a drop off of 210 fans in the average game from the previous year, and 565 fewer than two seasons ago.

With 174 road games to go around, those 210 average fans would easily amount to a quarter-million dollars in extra gate revenue spread through the conference. (That assumes an average ticket price of only $7)

Creighton led all teams in the Valley with 13,507 average fans. They go in order like this: Wichita St. (10,428); Bradley (8,447); Mo. St (7,595); In. St. (5,602); Evansville (4,910); Northern Iowa (4,767); Ill. St. (4,636); Drake (4,230); Southern Ill. (4,188).

Government does not solve problems; it subsidizes them.

The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Actually, beer is not a very big factor at all. Husker fans like to throw that barb out, but if you canvassed the arena, a very small percentage of people are drinking.

I have a beer every now and then, but when I do, I only have one and it has no bearing on whether or not I would attend. The beer is nice, don't get me wrong, and I really like that it is served there, but if it wasn't, it would have about a zero impact on my attendance.

Beer is $6.00 each. It isn't cheap. You aren't going to get drunk at a Creighton game unless you are ubber wealthy and don't mind simply throwing money away. The drunk people that I've encountered at the Qwest Center, almost always, got their snootful before the game at a local tavern. I've seen by percentage, more drunk people at Nebraska basketball games than Creighton.

All things being equal, most people on this board wish that beer could be served at their games, it is a nice spiff, and those that oppose beer at college basketball games would be surprised to find out how few people get loaded when the cost is prohibitive.

The truth about alcohol sales is this, the NCAA is so hypocritical. They deny colleges making a few bucks off of beer sales, yet sell broacasting rights to CBS, who in turn, sell beer ads. The NCAA loves the money they get via beer ads sold by CBS, but by God, no member institutions with on campus arenas should have the opportunity to cash in! Does anyone really think the March madness contract would be nearly what it is now if the NCAA had the stones to prohibit beer ads as a condition of broadcast rights???

While we are talking about attendance, this site sure does not have as much traffic as one would expect from
a whole conference website.

Unfortunately MVCFANS resembles a low-major conference web site with very little traffic. Threads are locked and too many posts are quickly deleted. If something doesn't change soon, MVCFANS will join ValleyTalk in the Abyss.

Come on mods, how 'bout some...

:Stupid:

Or it resembles a new board for a mid major basketball league in the off season.

This has been the way this board has been during the season and now off season. During the season you only needed to come by every few days. Now you only have to check it weekly as there is little risk anything will be pushed off the front page.
