MVC teams on NCAA probation?

Postby bigdawg » July 21st, 2011, 7:46 am

No question the Valley is cleaner than most conferences, but I wondered what the history of MVC schools receiving NCAA sanctions was. Who was the last to get in trouble?

I believe the author of the thread probably knew the answer to this question. This is just another petty attempt to take unprovoked shots at a school.

But of course, to satisfy your needs, the answer is

WICHITA STATE
WICHITA STATE
WICHITA STATE

We are the dirtiest of them all.

Does that make you feel better?

This looks like a setup because WSU's history with the NCAA has been discussed more than a few times. Back in the 70's and 80's - yep 30+ years ago, WSU was the most-penalized team in the NCAA. Bear in mind that WSU got almost all of those before most Valley teams were in D1, so the comparison is pretty skewed.

Most of WSU's penalties were in FB. One coach WSU hired made a list of every player in the SEC he wanted. Then he went to every one of those players and asked them if they were happy where they were at. If the answer was yes, he asked them what it would take to make them unhappy. Before the guy ever got on campus, he had dozens of infractions and had pi$$ed off the entire SEC.

Then WSU had an assistant FB coach who wanted to be the head coach, so he turned WSU in for everything he could dig up.

All that stuff happened in the late '60's - early '70's. 40+ years ago. If we're going that far back in history, then WSU's F4 and E8 finishes in the NCAA's aren't too old to be discussed here.

WSU's most recent run-in with the NCAA was in the '90's. WSU won a recruiting war against KU for a local player. Roy Williams was convinced WSU had to have cheated, so he complained to his buddies in the NCAA. Yes, Roy and KU have buddies in the NCAA. When the NCAA was in Kansas City, most of the NCAA's employees were KU grads. When the NCAA investigated WSU, they INVESTIGATED!

The NCAA guys camped out in Wichita for weeks looking for anything they could find. They found a couple of practices had been too long. The penalty was to have a couple of practices last less than the time allowed.

Does anyone really think this is productive? Seriously?

Digging up dirt can be fun, but any team being placed on probation hurts the entire conference. And yes, this has been discussed several times before on previous boards. For everyone that wants to keep MVCFans civil, these threads are nothing more than poison.

I can honestly say I didn't know that about WSU. I thought Bradley was in trouble once upon a time.

I have to second what Aargh is saying. Wichita State will be on a list of "most corrupt" schools for a long time because they have been penalized for 7 major violations. Judging schools by a list like that is a lot like saying "it ain't cheating if you don't get caught". How many schools are guilty of as much if not more over the years, but were never caught?

The most recent major violation WSU has been penalized for was almost 30 years ago. Before any of the athletes at WSU now were even born. It does not say much about how compliant today's program is. If real evidence of a recent violation comes up, that is a different story.

Nope. Not me. I joked, laughed and pointed fingers... yep it was fun, but I was not the guy that dug up the dirt. I know who the dirtdiggers were, but naming them would be unproductive at this point. I did a lot of things, but I wasn't the guy that did the "Cheaters" stuff. That said, I loved playing in the Wichita vs. Omaha cesspool, that was big fun! I also liked to post pictures of midgets, huge, huge fun!!!
