All Decade MVC basketball team

Taking a page from the discussion of best teams and trying to identify the best five players.

Darren Brooks and Kyle Korver have to be on the team. I could make a case for both Tatum and Mullins, but those spots are debatable. I'm struggling with the best center - POB or Miller or Tolliver? Funk and Ben Jacobson both had nice careers. Too tough to call.

I think it would be...
C-Paul Miller -Wichita State
F-Kyle Korver- Creighton
G-Nate Funk- Creighton
G-Ben Jacobson- Northern Iowa
G-Darren Brooks- SIU

For backups, I'd have Tolliver, I am a CU fan, but Tolliver didn't really come on till his Junior season. I think Randal Falker would also be a good option at center. Jamar Howard, As much as I hated the guy, was tough and a very good player. Jamal Tatum was a great scorer and defender, and Marcellus Sommerville was just a freak. With better coaching, this guy would have been unbelievable.

I think you start with Brooks and Korver as no-brainers.

After that there's a bunch of good ones that can be argued on any number of merits.

Funk, Jacobson, Tatum, Miller, Adam Koch, Osiris, Josh Young, Jamar, Falker, Coleman, Mullins, Ahearn, etc. I am sure there are others I missed.

Of the UNI players I listed, I think only Jacobson really makes the top 10-though arguments could be made for big men Koch and Coleman around #10 and even Stout in the top 20.

There might be some switching between these first and second teams, but that list looks unquestionable.

I was thinking Tatum on the first team, but Funk, Jacobson, and Brooks are all deserving of 1st team .

I question Miller's selection because he only had one really good year, but then the list of post players with even one dominating year is really short. POB's one year of significant contribution wasn't jaw-dropping or anything like that.

If there's going to be a WSU guy on the list at forward, I think I'd go with Kyle Wilson. He was probably underrated his Jr year when WSU made the S16 run. His Sr year had a weak and thin front court and he had to play the post quite a bit. That sealed his lack of respect or recognition among Valley fans. Wilson was a 6'8" finesse PF who could hit 3's or finish at the hoop. He wasn't a post player banging in the paint 20 minutes a game.

Howard's on-court antics probably cost the Shox an NCAA berth in 2005. Referees hated him. They called fouls to express their displeasure. Howard was the poster child for WSU getting a reputation as a foul-prone team. A foul-plagued WSU team lost some games in 2005 that could have gone the other way if fewer fouls had been called on them. I believe Howard's display of attitude when fouls were called contributed to WSU getting more fouls called.

Tatum beats Funk in my opinion in terms of personal and team accomplishments.

I can see that argument. Tatum's scoring numbers may not be as high, but that is at least partially attributable to difference in offensive styles (CU's style was uptempo while SIU had no offensive style :D ).

The most impressive thing about Tatum on the offensive end was his ability in the clutch. When SIU absolutely had to have a basket, Tatum got them one.

I agree with pretty much all your choices here. I think Egleseder (I may have spelled it wrong?) would deserve some consideration for the 5 spot too.

Only been following the Valley since I went to Indiana State so about 6 years so bear with me:
G Tatum-Never seen a guy quite like him since he left the Valley, so Clutch!
G Osiris- That guy was one of the best pure scorers i have ever seen.
G Josh Young- Even though he was on some bad teams, that guy could fill it up and always keep his team in it.
F Korver- Best player on this list.
C Faulkner- was the most dominant defensive player I have seen in the valley.

I don't. If JE had been a dominant post prescence for UNI for 3-4 years then I would say maybe (and heck I don't even think he was a "dominant post" player as much as he was just a big MF who was a solid player late in his career)
