If Illinois State goes FBS in football, who replaces them?

SLU? Maybe Oral Roberts? Don't tell me Butler is leaving because they aren't.

Think Elgin has a plan?

This might happen for football only and we are at least 3 years away from this happening at all IMO.

Speculation is not the root of all evil. Fans in this conference need to speculate more and dream more. At the same time, keeping their speculations and dreams within the realm of reality.

To speculate that you are jumping conferences and there has been a top secret sealed envelope, all the while your program is running an ever-increasing deficit, at the same time, your football stadium is falling apart and too small, well that just isn't realistic. In fact, that kind of dreaming and speculation is laughable.

On the other hand, ISU scheduling an annoucement, with the major donors apparently already on board, you have the makings of a dream being shaped into reality. I don't expect the announcement to include the name of a new conference, but I think it will outline the finances and plan for a major stadium upgrade. This is how it is done. Form a plan, involve the boosters, schedule a presser and let the fans speculate. When the announcement is made, excitement will be high, coffers will fill and the dream is achieved. This is a real effort to go larger, so far, I'm intrigued.

I have a question, does anyone know of the rules regarding a conference moving to 1-A, oops, FBS? With interest from two or more Valley schools looking to move up, is the MVFC considering the move? And if not, why? This could be the move that would keep the conference in one piece and possibly grab a few smaller Big XII teams when that debacle finally implodes.

The NCAA is the decision maker about schools (or leagues) switching levels.

I certainly don't know the financial situations at every MVFC school, but I'd imagine the cost of doing business at the FBS level is prohibitive for most. There would probably be an initial surge in interest and revenue, but that likely wouldn't cover the expenses and likely never would.

A jump to FBS, IMO, would turn the MVC into the MAC.

Tsk Tsk John. Again with the shot at poor MSU? I thought the jokes were pretty funny and somewhat deserved at first. But they are getting just a tad old. I know it's been said before but most MSU fans didn't give that rumor much credence. Because it was always just a rumor. I know there were a few knuckleheads that took it and ran with it. But I'd be willing that would have happened with most of the other MVC fanbases too.

Actually, it wasn't a shot. I simply was contrasting how things unfolded and are unfolding at two Valley schools. Both schools have fans that desire FBS and there are two distinct differences in the approach by each school and fanbase. Sure, the three or so MSU fans were comical to watch, but long ago I did commend most MSU fans for not buying into the rumor. Keep in mind, there is a strong desire by almost all MSU fans to make the jump. Rather than take what I typed as a slam, it was actually very instructional. If you go back to my original statement, "Speculation is not the root of all evil. Fans in this conference need to speculate more and dream more. At the same time, keeping their speculations and dreams within the realm of reality." I'm encouraging all fans in the Valley to speculate and dream. I encourage that of MSU and their fans as well. I think Illinois State, at least as of now, is going about realizing the dream in a productive approach.
