New facilities coming to the MVC

Postby arenafanatic » August 14th, 2011, 9:06 am

I was wanting to know what new or future practice facilities, stadiums, and arenas are coming to the MVC.

Thanks!

Drake plans to expand the old fieldhouse, mostly to make it large enough for a regulation indoor track (this building is from the 1920s).

Although I haven't seen anything official, well-placed sources tell me that Drake will be building a basketball practice facility next to (attached to?) the Knapp Center.

Thats going to require a lot of expansion, that open area is tiny. A regulation basketball court would barely fit in there

Panther-State....not sure what open area you're talking about. I assume you're talking about the practice facility, and not the fieldhouse expansion.

Actually I meant the area inside the fieldhouse with the mini-track, bleacher area and hoops. The one where most of the track athletes hang out during the Relays and Iowa State T&F Meet. I guess that was pretty vague

I don't know the details, but I'm assuming they'd have to tear down a couple of small buildings north of the fieldhouse, including the old ticket office.

Hopefully, they will learn from the mistakes that were made in building the Knapp Center. Unfortunately for Drake fans, the powers-that-be don't seem to see anything wrong with the Knapp. I still remember how disappointed I was when I first saw the place.

I just looked up what year that opened....1992...holy crap....That place is straight our of the 40's or 50's.

I'd throw 100 bucks towards Drake to get them a new place for me to go once a year....damn.
