Create your own league! Everyone's doing it!

Postby MVCfans » September 17th, 2011, 9:21 am

If the Big East breaks apart, what happens to St Johns, Marquette, Georgetown, Seton hall, Providence? What happens to A-10 schools like SLU, Xavier, and Dayton? Could this be the beginning of a new basketball-centric conference? Does it affect Bradley, Creighton, or Wichita State?

Tighten em up - this could be a bumpy ride.

The SIU, UE and Drake's of the world are screwed if this happens. Elgin needs to get cracking right away to make sure teams are committed to the MVC.

Texas, Notre Dame, Okie St., Memphis, Northwestern, Iowa St., TCU, Missouri St. Call it the Big 7.5

The only thing blocking such a league is the sheer volume of sealed envelopes that haven't yet been opened in Springfield.

The good news? WSU gets football back, woohoo!!!!

Now for the bad news, here are WSU's new league members:

Fort Hays State, Washburn, Emporia State, Pittsburg State, Wichita State, Northwest Missouri, Central Missouri, Missouri Southern, Truman State, etc

I suppose the remaining Big East schools could simply add the remaining Big 12 schools and form one big conference with 12 football schools and 20 basketball schools. East and West dvisions or something. It would save both leagues for the moment, but there would be only one BCS automatic berth if they did that, so it seems highly unlikely. Not sure the Big East can salvage a BCS berth no matter who they add at this point unless Notre Dame joins for football as well.

Guessing that Kansas, and Missouri end up in the Big Ten with two of (K State, Iowa St, Notre Dame, and West Virginia).
The Texas schools find a home in the SEC.

K State and Iowa State either get lucky and find the Big Ten, or they end up Big Fish in the Mountain West.

Big East could potentially break up as they just lost 'Cuse and Pitt to the ACC. They don't really have much for football programs going forward, especially if the big 10 goes after Rutgers. TCU is probably crapping themselves right now. They may want to say oops and join the big 12 before the big east breaks up.

If the Big East breaks up, I like this list but I would add Notre Dame, Butler and Villanova and take out Temple as well and split it into a west vs. east.

West:
Creighton
Marquette
Notre Dame
Depaul
Loyola
SLU
Butler

East:
Georgetown
Villanova
Xavier
Dayton
St. Joes
St. Johns
Seton Hall

One can always dream....

I could see Temple moving to the Big East.

I'd like WSU to be in a conference with Tulsa and Creighton if I had my way. A mix of A10 and MVC schools would certainly work also.
