Fox Sports suspends MVC TV's Dan McLaughlin

Cardinals and MVC broadcaster Dan McLaughlin was arrested for DWI, violating his probtion from a previous offense. With the suspension coming after Fox Sports' last Cardinals broadcast, it isn't clear what McLaughlin is suspended from - unless it will extend into basketball season and affect our regional TV coverage.

Damn, that's a shame. But man, can't feel too sorry for someone who decides to get behind the wheel and drive after drinking. I'd never been more ashamed to be a JE fan than the day I heard he got a DUI. Idiots

Doing it once is bad enough.. but doing it twice within a year? Are you kidding me?

I like Dan as a broadcaster. I think he does the Valley well. But he better get the correct punishment for the situation. I dunno what the rules are on Missouri for a 2nd DWI conviction, but I would think losing his license is most definitely going to happen. They better not favor him just because he's a TV personality..

That mugshot looks like the EXACT same one he had during his first arrest.

Damn, that sucks. I liked him as a broadcaster as well, but you'd have to think he would lose his job after getting a second one in that short of time. He should not be allowed to keep his job.

Firing him accomplishes nothing. Assisting him in getting some rehab, letting him keep his job, but with some heavy restrictions related to alcohol is the only way to help someone in his situation.

He obviously can't handle things on his own, so give him the support he needs - and tie his job to making use of the help offered to him.

He might need a few months away from a microphone. Alcoholics going cold turkey do, say, and think some irrational things and have emotional reactions to various things they have to go through to recover.

Agreed aargh. Dan obviously has a problem with alcohol.

Give him time away. Put strict restrictions on him..support but with tough love. Will be interesting to see how FSM handles this.

My guess is that would make matters worse. You'd have to be a little torn down to sit through that many Ram's games.

It is now reportd that McLaughlin has resigned as the television voice of the Missou Tigers, and as the primary voice of the Missouri Valley Conference.
