Bradley Red-White Scrimmage

I know everyone is dying to know how the troops looked in Geno Ford's first public appearance at the annual Red-White Scrimmage last night. As expected, Geno is now 1-1 as a coach as Bradley beat Bradley.

I don't think there were too many surprises except for maybe a couple. Thoughts from myself and those garnered from other fans:

1. It won't be a real good team but will play hard
2. Scoring, and more importantly, shooting the ball will be a challenge. No good shooters really
3. Turnovers. Not a lot of really good traditional ball handlers on the roster
4. Depth. Just not enough talent top to bottom
5. Taylor Brown didn't play last night so his addition certainly changes things for the better
6. Athleticism is good and will only get better under coach Ford
7. Sophomore Walt Lemon, Jr. will play alot at the PG spot. Hes freaky fast and a great athlete...but out of control a lot
8. Simms-Edwards looked the part
9. Everyone has been saying how Freshman Shayok Shayok will start and play a ton of minutes from the start...that still appears to be true. He is 6-8 with long arms. Active, athletic. Will be a good player in the MVC eventually
10. One surprise...7-1 FR center Nate Wells. By no means is he ready to start, etc in the MVC..but everyone predicted a sure-fire redshirt year and no hope....he has gotten in good shape, is really big, long arms, and not totally clueless out there. He shows some athleticism, can move some, and you can't teach 7-1 with long arms. Still might be a few years before he contributes but there is some hope there

Bradley will finish 8th, 9th or 10th.

Thanks for being honest tribe. If you try to get an idea at the BU board what your team will be like, it's usually all sunshine and rainbows.

Sunshine and rainbows often preceed tornados.

Thanks for the update, Tribe. Not knowing a lot about Ford, what kind of defense will the Braves show this year?

This year it will be the "cross our fingers and hope we don't get blown out defense" :)

Ideally Geno wants to play fast. I know all coaches say that but he actually did play fast at Kent State. I think the strength of this team, if their is one, is the athleticism at the guard and small forward spots. BU at least competes in that aspect.

When he gets his type of guys there will be a lot of ball pressure, looking for steals, aggressive type play. He wants to push it on offense and that was noticeable at the scrimmage. With Simms Edwards, Lemon, Shayok and Brown the strength will be in driving the ball, getting layups/dunks and getting fouled.

Bradley is ok, not good or average, but ok players 1-6 or 7..after that there is a major dropoff. Geno just wasnt left with much in the cupboard to work with.

Donivine is going to struggle in the MVC. He is a pretty strong kid, good ball handler...but really down the line on the athleticism scale. He doesn't really fit what Geno Ford is trying to do.

There is a reason Coach Ford's first recruit was a PG for next year...the position Stewart came into play. He could be a solid, 15 minute backup before its all said and done. I hope I'm wrong.
