Dorrian Williams, freshman pg from Douglas HS in Oklahoma had season ending shoulder surgery; fellow Oklahoma frosh, Drew Wilson 6'7 has a groin pull that will sideline him a couple weeks, and Keith Pickens 6'4 is still rehabing from the patellar injury that sidelined him last year after starting 17 games as a frosh the year before. Pickens will definitely be in the 10 man rotation, probably our best perimeter defender. Wilson is interesting, very athletic, rebounds out of space , but raw offensively. Could play or could rs this year as we have Weems, juco Corbin Thomas 6'6, and freshman Kirk 6'7, all in the mix at the 4 spot.

Couple others , juco pg Anthony Downing 6'1, and soph Corey Copeland 6'4 are nursing minor injuries but should play tonite.

Bears up 72-39 at the under 12 timeout. Weems with 20; Scheer with 15.

I was pleased with what I saw. The 2 juco transfers (Gulley and Thomas) looked pretty good. We were definitely at our best when Biz was in running the team. Weems was Weems. Scheer seems much more confident offensively. As does Patterson.

Hard to draw conclusions from an exhibition but it was a good start.

Weems really looks like he's in great shape. I think he's going to have a big year.

Since Bearnation is kinda sorta down............Only saw first half....Truman St didn't provide much of a test, but gave Lusk a chance to play combos and see what coaches see in a 1st exhibit game like this. I was pleased for most part with how Bears played defensively (but, again, gotta take into consideration the competition). Scheer and Weems are killer from outside. Bizoukas runs a good point. Bear fans expect Weems and Scheer to score. More is needed from others to support and fill in point-wise on offense.

Think Bears will be adequate at post with Caleb Patterson/Isaiah Rhine/Kyle Kirk. I liked Corbin Thomas's strength inside at the 4, and Kirk showed he can play both the 4 and 5, and showed me that he will contribute as a frosh. Jamar Gulley has a ways to go to get acclimated to finding his role on offense but can post-up nicely down low. Bears need to find more ways to get him the ball where he can deal, since his forte, supposedly, is taking it to the hoop. Cory Copeland's improved bigtime on D and has potential to provide scoring punch.

Keith Pickens and Anthony Downing, juco pt transfer, did not play, but may on Saturday.

Difficult to predict too much about an exhibit against a D-II that is predicted to finish 9th in a 10 team league. If this team's gonna finish 6th as pre-season polls said, it will be a very strong 6th. I can see Bears upsetting Top 3 teams, and getting upset themselves.

Bears win 99-68

Weems 24pts 6ast 3rbs 5stls
Scheer 15pts 3ast 2rbs
Gulley 12pts 5ast 4rbs
Patterson 11pts 3rbs
Rhine 10pts 3rbs

Offense is almost exactly the same as last year but a little more movement and we seem to share the ball a little better. Pressure man without any wrinkles tonight but I didn't like how we gave up some open treys...don't have the rotations figured out yet. Exhibitions are what they are but we looked about like I thought we would.

A couple things are points for optimism. I thought Gulley showed that he can be a very effective replacement for Mallett as he's a little bigger, a little longer, but has a similar versatility. Played hard and had a nice nice stat line of 22 min, 5/7 fg, 1/2 3pt, 1/1 ft, 12pts, 4rbs, 5 assists, 1 stl. Also got excellent production from the two headed sr post Patterson /Rhine with 21pts, 9rbs. If those two guys adequately man the middle and Gulley can be similar to Mallett, then we will be a handful because I think we're better at the point, Scheer will more than replace Leonard , Weems is Weems, and our depth is much improved.

Hopefully Sat we can get juco pg Downing in the mix as he will be a nice alternate to the steady Bizoukas who had 6 assists and 3 stls.
