Let the hand wringing begin. Bad timing for WSU.

On the bright side you might have the cash and comfortability for Bruce Weber.

Hand wringing? No one is bigger than the program - not even HOF'r Ralph Miller. Did the WSU job suddenly become unattractive? I think most would agree that we upgraded from Turgeon to Marshall. Maybe another upgrade is in the cards, or maybe not.

Lynn Marshall commented recently that Gregg could put an end to the annual speculation by saying right now that they are staying put, no matter what. He questioned if that was smart. Sounds like Mrs. Marshall wouldn't be offended if they stayed put.

But, it all boils down to this - has the WSU job become
1. More attractive
2. Less attractive
over the past 5 years?

As long as the "have's won't play the have nots", it will be BCS and everyone else for themselves. If Marshall left, his crown jewell recruiting class of juco/academic challanged stars could crumble, leaving the cupboard very, very bare. Personally, I think he stays. But....at SC or any other BCS school, the playing field would be more level than a non BCS conference like the MVC.

Thats why I think it would be great for Weber to go into a program like WSU. They have a great recruiting class and I think Weber could manage to keep them. He would be back in the valley and probably in a better spot than trying to rebuild SIU from the ground up again. If WSU can pay Marshall a bunch of cash, I bet they can conjure it up for a really good coach/recruiter who knows the valley well, but just couldn't take the pressure at the higher level. You wouldn't miss much if at all with that kind of replacement.

(he also has a fantastic relationship with the Parker family......)

What on earth makes anybody think WSU would pick a failed coach who plays a boring style of basketball? Shocker fans are neither accustomed to or interested in "Ugly Ball".

If Marshall left, I'd MUCH sooner hve Jans as the next coach than Weber.

South Carolina may be "home" for Marshall, but I don't think Marshall would be comfortable at a school where he was lower in the pecking order than the third assistant towel manager for the JV FB program.

Agreed, though Illinois is another story. Win and you will go through this every year. Not enjoyable.

Actually, Jans has been a head coach - at Chipola JUCO, just not at the D1 level.

What we need to avoid is hiring any assistants just to make the outgoing coach look good because he has a coaching tree. Fogler foisted Cohen on WSU. I'm not sure anyone was interested in making Cohen a head coach.

It will be very surprising to see both Jans and Marshall at WSU next year. If Marshall left, Jans would be a good choice. Another choice that could be interesting with WSU ties would be John Cooper.
