Ugh, bad news and kind of surprising. This isn't what you want from a 6th year senior. No additional info was available on the PJstar about the type of controlled substance.

I'll almost guarantee it was for aderall. It's a huge drug right now for college students and NFL defensive backs.

From Dave Reynolds' twitter, Egolf is still sitting in Peoria County Jail and will remain there for another overnight. Braves practice today from 11-1 and the team bus leaves for Carbondale at 2pm.

It could also have been a prescription pain killer. He's coming off a major injury isn't he? Lots of people coming off something like that get inadvertently hooked on percocet, darvocet, or something similar. And if he didn't have a script for it and bought it illegally a lot of states treat that as severely as possession of other types of drugs.

Regardless hope he's all right and gets himself straightened out.

Yes, he has torn his ACL twice and was out most of last season and just recently broke his nose. Not sure what kind of meds they prescribe in the rehab process for the torn ACL, but wouldn't be surprised if prescription meds were involved.

I think people really underestimate the magnitude of, and the danger of prescription drug abuse. If you're in possession of a controlled substance that you don't have a prescription for, you are in violation of federal law. Doesn't matter if it's a street drug or a prescription drug.

Ask any ER physician, and I can pretty much guarantee that most of the overdoses they treat involve prescription drugs as opposed to street drugs.

There is little difference between OxyContin, Vicodin, etc and Heroin...they are all opiate pain killers (while illegal in the US, Heroin is available by prescription in many countries). Same with Adderall and Meth....they're both amphetamines that have the same effect on your body.
