I was wondering how long it would be before the invite was withdrawn.

Dangerous position for Butler here. Hope it works out for them and they can prove that they're a program rather than just a coach. They might have to start paying more than $1.1 million for a HC to do that, though.

And I hope this works out for Stevens. He seems like a great coach, and he might be walking into a great position with an elite franchise with no pressure to win immediately.

Have to say it surprises me in some ways that Stevens made the jump to the pros. Sure the money is there. But job security is non existent outside of a few elite coaches (like Pop) . The coach of the year for 2013 was sacked at the end of the season. Not to mention dealing with the giant egos of players that sometimes have more power than the HC.

Just doesn't seem like his kind of gig. But he seems like a great young coach and being a long time Celtics fan I hope he does well.

I agree with that, but Stevens will have college jobs lining up for him even if he crashes and burns in Boston. None of the college coaches that have had bombed in the NBA have had trouble getting a new job. Even while job security is bad there, I don't think many coaches have to worry too much about their money. That NBA Coach of the Year will still get paid next season, probably sit on a beach somewhere while making millions, and then walk right into a new job.

Meanwhile Stevens just about quadrupled his salary to coach at probably one of the five biggest franchises in American sports.

Barry Collier, Thad Matta, and Todd Lickliter all had success at Butler before Brad Stevens. Not to take anything away from Stevens as he is obviously a great coach, but you could argue those men but Brad into the position to be successful.

The problem this time is Butler lost Matthew Graves, there coach in waiting, this March. It will be interesting to see the direction Butler goes for a coach next year this late in the game.
