There have been problems in the handshake lines after some Kentucky HS games, so how do you solve that? Ban the handshake lines, of course.

There's also a report of Ron Baker congratulating an opponent for the game that opponent played when that opponent fouled out in a State Championship game. The game had been a shootout between Baker and the other player.

Completely silly. Ban the bad actors, don't ban what is otherwise a great tradition of sportsmanship for 99% of games.

This whole thing is a bit of a misunderstanding. In short, KHSAA members have been advised that they are not required to conduct the post-game handshakes, and if they opt to continue they may be fined if a fight breaks out. I doubt this is any different policy than any other state.

So, you think there's a coach who is going to risk a fine if a fight breaks out? If a fight breaks out, is it the coach of the team that throws the first punch that gets fined? Or is it the coach of the team that caused the first punch to be thrown who gets fined?

I don't know. What I do know is that even if nobody does the handhsake line any more, the KHSAA didn't "ban" them.

Forced handshakes are stupid anyways. If a kids wants to congratulate an opponent with a handshake and show of good sportsmanship good for him, let him do it on his own. Forcing kids to stand in line and mumble a "good game" that they don't mean doesn't accomplish anything. In fact, as a kid, I think I heard "bad game" or some other insult as often as I heard someone say good game. It is a silly archaic tradition and isn't worth the trouble it can cause.
