ISUr exhibition vs Quincy

About what would be expected for this team. Lots of ugly. Won 84-65, but score was back and forth until we stuck with a group with about 6 min left. Lots of line up changes.

Bigs - only 3 played as one was injured. All 3 are capable of fouling out quickly against experienced posts. I liked what I saw, but they were awfully aggressive. Reggie Lynch could be real good defensively. All were more mobile than I expected.

Guards - they are FAST. Paris Lee is quick enough to guard anyone in the league. And did it tonight without fouling. Had 10 pts, 5 asst, and 5 steals. Looked like he could be a contender for all freshman team. Will be interesting to see how effective he can be vs high quality guards who are smart (Lemon). Bobby Hunter was a juco scoring machine and had 17 tonight. Had no issues getting to the line where he was 11 for 12. Keane was more aggressive offensively and had a good stat line. Zeisloft has a great stroke and had 13.

Zach Lofton - is still my pick for newcomer of the year. Didn't start and only played 5 min in first half. Not sure what's going on there yet. But he is good. 19 points in 18 minutes on 6 for 11 from the field (3 of 5 from 3 and 4 of 4 from line). Had no issues getting his shot when he wanted but wasn't overly aggressive. Nearly all of his shots were in rhythm and the flow of the game.

Considering we were down one big, don't know the status of Knight (should be a top 3 offensive weapon), and shuffled lineups a lot, it was decent. This team could be competitive in some games and could really struggle in others. VCU on Friday will be interesting. Fouls didn't seem to be as bad as some of the other games some of you guys experienced, but there were a few more called. Need more of a sample size still to get a good feel for these guys.

yes. john jones went up to tip dunk a missed shot. the ball went in another direction and he still made contact with the rim. didn't seem right. thats how the announcers explained it if i remember right.

I didn't realize how thin the Redbirds were in the front court this year.

How did Jones look?

I would say Jones looked raw. He had a lot of size on anybody guarding him but kept settling for hook shots or contested face up jumpers. Definitely has a long way to go to be an effective big in this league in my opinion. Lynch was probably the most impressive big, but all in all, not a lot to be excited about down low. The backcourt on the other hand, looked very quick on both ends and Lofton was able to get his shot almost at will and did not miss any easy ones.

I think Middlebrooks will be our best big and he was out with a bad blister on his foot. Hopefully he'll be back for VCU. Knight is suspended and didn't play. No one knows how long he'll be out but most assume he won't be playing Friday @ VCU since he has a court date that morning. Both if them will probably be starters so depth took a big hit tonight.

Muller said they just ran the base offense tonight with 0 set plays called so it turned into too much 1 on 1 at times but that's bound to happen with no sets called. Don't have too much to add from the posts above other then it was tough to get a read on how we'll be from an exhibition, especially one with 2 starters out. I do think VCU will likey run us out of the gym though... Will likely be lots of ups and downs for the Birds this year.

What's the story with Knight? I know he got arrested, but is it just a matter of time until he's back or is it in question?

What does this mean? Is he a good guy or is he trouble? Will he be in trouble again? Is it just a matter of time before his record is expunged? Just a matter of time before he is on probation? We had a pretty good player in the 90s, who was kicked off of the team by the new coach after a serious incident. It became public knowledge soon after that he had been in trouble before but the prior coaching staff kept it under wraps and ignored his problems. He wasn't a good dude but he was a high school Top 50 player. Marshall won't put up with those type of guys and I'm thankful for that. Will Muller put up with that?
