RealTime RPI has MVC 5th right now

I know it doesn't matter a lot at this stage, but if we can win some games in the holiday tournaments and keep our RPI above the A-10 and MWC it will help us in March.

Code: Select all

Unfortunately, there are only two more MTEs where the MVC can get scalps left after the WSU-BYU game tonight. That would be Missouri State and Indiana State this weekend.
There are still some good scalps out there on regular schedules however:
Bradley has Milwaukee? and South Florida?
Drake has Iowa and New Mexico State? who has started strong;
Evansville has Indiana tonight, Ohio, Xavier, Butler
Illinois State has Dayton and a beatable DePaul
Indiana State has Saint Louis and Belmont after their MTE (but need that first win over Tulsa)
Loyola has Mississippi State
Missouri State has Louisville and Oral Roberts?
Northern Iowa has Milwaukee?, Iowa State, Virginia Commonwealth at home and goes to Virginia
Southern Illinois gets Western Kentucky at home
Wichita State goes to Saint Louis has Oral Roberts? and Tennessee in Wichita and goes to Alabama

I was thinking the same thing, the MVC needs to take advantage and do well this weekend.

if we can get past Tulsa we might play TCU (which I would hope would be a win) and then maybe Harvard, which is receiving quite a few votes in the AP poll

Forget about the MWC and A10, let's go get the ACC. They are 9th!!

:D

Seriously though, there is a chance to have 5 in the top 100, which would be HUGE! Every projection though has MVC falling back to 11, based on the bottom 4 teams finishing over 185.

Thanks for adding those. I think the ? marks were more denoting that the opponent is borderline good-RPI.

Yes, those are potentials based on decent starts so far or expected improvement once they hit conference (i.e. I think Oral Roberts may be able to do damage in the Southland)

Kip, I specifically left out the MTE's and addressed that in the first part of my response. The original post was hoping for some wins in holiday tournaments and I was pointing out that we really only have the two tournaments left: MSU and Indiana State this weekend. Bradley, Drake and Illinois State all have tournaments left but the opponents are pre-determined and not exactly earth-shattering. I agree that the Bears and Trees have chances to get some good wins, but those are the only two left to have a chance.

Wichita got kind of one in DePaul and earned a shot at BYU, UNI got kind of one in LMU, missed with Maryland, then got what should be a good one in LaSalle. Loyola whiffed, though those were pre-determined and not real great anyways. SIU lost its chance to get something semi-decent (again not a real great field).

I think a lot of us were hoping for this, but unfortunately ORU has lost their top scorer for the year to an ACL injury.
