Per Jeff Goodman.

@GoodmanESPN: Here's an interesting name that will surface for Marquette, per source: Gregg Marshall.

That would be a parallel move for Marshall. After Marshall turned down UCLA's 2.6 mill last year, the bidding will likely start at $3 mill+. I don't know if Marquette is looking at that kind of a payday.

Did Buz Williams really leave Marquette for Virginia Tech willingly? Yikes.

Anywho, no, Gregg Marshall will not be coaching Marquette.

He would be a fool to leave WSU for Marquette. That won't happen. I think it would take a Duke or North Carolina caliber position to pull him away.

What would be interesting is if the KU job came open. Marshall would have to be a prime contender. But would he do that to the Shocker faithful - go to a hated interstate rival? Thankfully for Shox fans those type positions don't come open very often.

Gregg will do what is best for him. It will take a lot to better his current situation.

Kansas and Kentucky were the two that would scare me the most -- I could see both coaches considering the NBA, and both schools would be elite blue blood programs that could pay him $5 million a year if they wanted to.

I think Marshall's distaste for Kansas, and the distaste of Kansas fans for him, will keep that from happening, though. I could see KU fans pushing for a more ridiculous choice like Danny Manning or Mark Turgeon, valuing "Kansas" over coaching talent.

Take all the hate that MVC fans have for Marshall. Double it. Take that number and square it. Then take that number and calculate it to the power of infinity+1.

That will give you a fraction of how much KU fans hate Marshall.

There was a group photo of the 3 coaches from Kansas in the tourney and a brief video of the shoot. KU fans on phog.net were so thrilled with how Self had disrespected Marshall and was obviously the Alpha Dog in that group that I imagine they required vaseline and Kleenex to make their posts.

I just posted the records and rankings of WSU and KU on their board with a simple message: "I think scoreboard says who's the alpha dog". Doesn't bother me to pour gas on the flaming fire of hatred of WSU and Marshall from KU fans.

Marshall will NEVER be a candidate for the KU job.
