SIU AD Mario Moccia heading to New Mexico State

New Mexico State will name Southern Illinois athletic director Mario Moccia as its new AD at a news conference Monday afternoon, a source told ESPN.

Moccia is an NMSU graduate and formerly worked at the University of New Mexico.

What did he accomplish as SIU, other than running his two marquee programs into the ground, that could make anyone else want him??

I get that he's an alum, but that job is a homeless trainwreck...

It appeared he did a great job with fundraising and facilities. Major, major facilities projects in his tenure. But there is no doubt that the product on the field of play took a huge dropoff while he was there.

Hard to blame Mario for Lowery. Yeah, he was the AD when SIU renewed him, but any reasonable AD would do the same thing after 3 NCAA appearances.

Can't speak to any of SIU's other sports though.

He oversaw a renovation to the Arena, new football stadium, new baseball facility and upgrades to otjer facilities. He was brought in for fundraising, he accomplished that well.
