Good for the Sycamores! ISU has had a great start handling the CUSA and Horizon favorites. They’re not only treading water without Cooper Neese and the Iowa transfer - they’re thriving.

All these metrics tell me is that once again the MVC will be a one-bid league.

Yep--too many squandered opportunities and bad losses by the "Illinois Four" this non-conf schedule. Disappointing...but it was an uphill battle to begin.

I looked over everybody's remaining OOC schedules and reached the same conclusion. Lots of good teams with developing talent but nobody has an easy path to stand out.

When Valley play starts it gets even worse. Loyola won conference with only 3 losses and still would have been well off the bubble. With the league wide near parity I am seeing recently, a 12-6 champion is not unimaginable.
I hope somebody can prove us wrong but I'm just not seeing it.

Those SOS numbers hurt my soul. I know a lot of it has to do with our P5 opponents having poor records but we (Valpo) have to do better. I believe we will next year.

Something to consider too... Isn't Indiana State still playing without two projected starters in Christian Williams and Cooper Neese, who become eligible at the end of the fall semester? I know the Trees typically show flashes of being good in the non-con then struggle in the conference over the last few years, but these two additions will be pretty significant come conference play. As long as the team can jell together quickly, they could be tough.

I agree though, a 12-6 or 13-5 champ seems very likely with maybe only three or four games separating 2-9. Heck, even Drake looks good so far and they were one of the expected doormats. Norton was a golden pick up for them. He's from Bloomington, IL and went to Central Catholic. Wish he would have transferred home for his final year. The Birds could have used a composed PG on the ball.

Why don't you use the NET rankings?

For one, the NET rankings are terrible. There's practically no support for it anywhere, and its not a good gauge of the strength of a school to this point.

For two, it doesn't have an SOS listed (as that factor is inside the NET), so it doesn't fit nicely in my columns :D
