Alford fired, Niko playing with fire

Postby MissouriValleyUnite » December 31st, 2018, 12:53 pm

Alford’s Year 6 met early termination today after a 15 pt loss to Liberty (imagine that school operating in Hollywood).

Niko’s inaugural year ranks 297th in the country as the Rams have helped plummet the MWC to 15th.

Both midwestern guys, Alford an Indiana native. Any chance we see a familiar face return to the Valley (Alford to Valpo :buddies:)?

I would sure go for the UCLA job, pretty nice houses across the street(Sunset) to the north.

Keep that man far away from this program. Any wins he might bring aren't worth it. I think Lottich might be slowly figuring it out anyway. We'll see if I'm right come conference play. I know it was a non D1 but the team I saw Saturday afternoon was a night and day difference in terms of energy effort and intensity compared to the team I saw against Ball State and Texas A&M.

Here's an article on why Alford should be a hard pass.

Steve Alford is a horrible human being and has no right being a coach of any kind. He needs to be put out to pasture and forgotten.

He did coach at Manchester (IN) to start his coaching career, but I doubt we see him at Valpo. It’d be an improvement but I’m not sure Valpo is ready to write off Lottich quite yet. He’ll get this year and next before any real descisions will be made.

It will take Alford quite some time to soothe his ego to consider getting back into coaching. I look for him to follow Steve Lavin into the broadcast booth.

I don't see any Valley openings this season, unless someone gets poached. Barry may be on a slightly warm seat, but I think SIU will perform well enough to keep him employed.

He does a great job of playing the God card to answer any questions about his lack of success. A tried and true method for coaches and athletes over the years.

Hinson’s seat is more than warm after underperforming in the non-conference season he must now either win the.Valley regular season or Valley conference tournament to secure his job . The new AD Kill has told everyone who is listening that Hinson must make a postseason tournament. We shall see .

I think there's a better chance Porter gets hired at UCLA (10-15%) than Alford gets hired by a Valley school (.001%). Valpo would need to pull a Kevin Stallings Pittsburgh from last year and go winless in the conference to fire Lottich (not happening barring some catastrophic scandal).

If anyone gets fired this year it's Barry, and I have a feeling that SIU would go Mullins or bust in the coaching search. Whether or not Porter moves on will certainly be an interesting factor in whether or not Mullins goes to SIU or perhaps gets elevated to head coach at Loyola. Regardless of whoever loses out on that sweepstakes, they will NOT be looking at Alford.
