Shockers vs. Tulsa - Intrust Bank Arena

Postby iSASO » December 20th, 2010, 11:11 pm

The Shockers hope to tie the series up at 60. This game hasn't been played in downtown Wichita since the early 50's at The Forum.

There's a wealth of history in this series and more history will be made Tuesday night.

It will be interesting to see how the game at the downtown arena works out. I think the Shockers will win this one, but I will be curious to hear after the game about the atmosphere. Will it get as loud as the Roundhouse? I'm guessing not, just because of the dimensions of the place.

I've heard lots of good reports about the concerts and how the music and sounds carried well, but haven't attended one myself yet.

I have been to several sporting events, and they've been terrible so far. However, this will be by far the largest number of fans that show up for a game to date.

It will be interesting...I think most people (myself included) have been skeptical of playing a game there and disappointed at the marketing and fan interest. That being said, ticket sales have been brisk (even at $26-$102 per ducket) and as we approach game time, there seems to be a buzz about town regarding the game.

It might end up being a pretty decent crowd. No doubt a Garrett Stutz 3 has as much to do with that as anything.

Fickle shocker fans? Could you please be clearer with which fan base or poster you are trying to bait?

What does the arena hold and what is the expected attendance? Was there priority seating or was it first come first serve? Are there really seats going for over $100? I can see 30 to 40 but not $100.

The arena holds 15,000 for basketball. There were about 1500 tickets left at about 4:00 yesterday. Season ticket holders took the majority of the seating based on the priority point system. Remaining seats in the upper level went for $26. Lower level floor seats went for $52. Courtside seats went for yes.. $102. All of the higher priced tickets have been sold out.

15004 for basketball. Best information is there are about 1200 tickets remaining as of late yesterday.

It's $102 for courtside, just a few remain.

$26 in the upper bowl.

There were some club seats (purchased for all events then turned back for resale if the owner doesn't want them) at $52 but I don't think any of those remain.

They used a computer program to choose best available based on priority points in SASO for season ticket holders. The arena holds back 4 sections (I think) for their own use, 1 or 2 for students. The club seating is in those 4 sections.

I am hoping for 13000 in attendance, maybe 14000 sold. We'll see. I am still skeptical of actual interest 4 days before Christmas, but it seems to be stronger than I am anticipating as the date got closer.

As I mentioned earlier, Garrett's 3 three days ago has played a large role, I am certain.

Was this game a part of your season ticket package? Are alcohol sales allowed? It would appear this game is going to be a huge success. That being said I wonder how much talk there has been to doing this more and more. As much as you guys make fun of renting, if this turns out to be a potential cash cow like it is at Creighton it would be stupid to not do it a lot. It is my understanding that Creighton actually pays no rent. Their rent is based on concession sales. If they hit a number they pay none. I have heard they have hit the number each year so far. The Qwest has been a game changer money wise for Creighton. Is SASO related to ISASO?

Yes, I own SASO, if you must know.

Yes, it was part of the season ticket package.

NO, there will not be A LOT of WSU games at Intrust Bank Arena. Maybe one per season max. The Shockers have a proud home court tradition and we don't intend to trade that off for a facility where all the team-related items are posted on the walls with velcro.

Here's a slice of that history:

"It was like Wolf Creek with all that electricity," said former Shocker Gary Cundiff. "You battled them in recruiting, you battled them in the Valley, you battled them for national recognition, so you're going head-to-head with them all the time.

McDaniel's games against Tulsa are the things that legends are made of. Twenty-two points, 20 rebounds. Or 19 points, 22 rebounds. Or 35 points, 14 rebounds. Maybe 34 points, 13 rebounds.

"His first four or five years as a pro, he'd always call and talk about Tulsa games," Sherrod said. "He'd mention that they were playing the Lakers, and the electricity and the atmosphere made it like playing against Tulsa."
