Bring Back Lowery

Postby oldlowerydays » February 4th, 2019, 8:12 pm

At Arch Madness 2012, SIU basketball changed forever after the absolutely senseless firing of Chris Lowery.

Rita Cheng and Mario Moccia’s recklessness have left a profound impact in Carbondale that could last decades. Moccia got his golden parachute to Las Cruces and hasn’t stopped laughing.

Meanwhile, we’ve been left with a travel agent who gets his team stranded on a bus stuck sleeping inside a church and can’t cook BBQ without standing on a stool.

The top 25 rankings and NCAA Tournament banners inside SIU arena hang as a relic of a bygone era inside the house Lowery built while PT Barnum puts on his latest clown acts.

I’ve actually switched my donations to the Little Apple as the historic duo of Weber/Lowery have built their own top 25 program destined for another run at the Final 4.

Jerry Kill, make SIU basketball great again. Bring home C-Lo.

Certainly not defending Barry here; but Lowery, really ? After busting their budget to pay him 3/4 a million a year, how do you account for his last 5 years ?

18-15 3rd place in MVC
13-18 5th place in MVC
15-15 9th place in MVC
13-19 8th place in MVC
8-23 9th place in MVC

A down year or two can be explainable. But the minute he got past what Weber left him the first two years, he had a continuous steady decent into a pile of doo-doo.

Two words: Kevin Dillard. We were the first program he destroyed and he polluted the rest of the class with him. Also the fan base handcuffed Lowery’s ability to recruit with their behavior at games. At the SLU game in 2011, people held signs so inappropriate like “How C-Lo will we C-Go?” that a woman from the Lowery camp had to enter the student section to confiscate signs.

The question isn’t what can Lowery do without Weber (he was a missed layup from the Elite 8 in year 3). The question is what can Weber do without Lowery. Lowery saved Weber’s career at K-State and would have at Illinois too.

Hinson couldn’t hold Lowery’s jock. He’d need a stool to even reach it.

Lowery is probably a very good assistant just like lusk was a very good assistant Both got their chances to take over programs that were at the top of the valley and by the time they were ousted left them in shambles. You can site all kinds of excuses, but those are the facts. I'm sure Lowery will get another chance some day; maybe he can make better use of it.

Lowery couldn't win with his own recruits, and even worse he couldn't keep his own recruits in the classroom.

Right. The guy got his big contract, than got fat and lazy and stopped working. A lot more than coaching goes into being a head coach, and he did not want to do those things.

Wow. Is SIU starting to turn into Bradley where they blame the downfall of their program on something that happened a long time ago? On a good note, at least it was only 6-7 years ago.

Not defending or promoting any coach...but from an outsider perspective I'd say there are elements of the SIU fanbase that certainly make any coaches job extremely difficult. Might see Wichita State go through the same sort of cycle if they don't get back on track in the next couple years or Marshall leaves.

WOW!!!! It's good ol' Dean. He's been booted off of every board in the Valley. Haven't seen him on SalukiInsider since they started. The same ol' Lowery schtick that he's been using for probably close to a decade now.

PS -- No one in Carbondale is pining for the return of Chris Lowery. Well, unless that's where Dean lives.
