UConn to Big East?

At first, this didn’t seem like anything given the no-name website. But now Jeff Goodman and other respected journalists are retweeting so it appears to have legs.

Making a thread as it would be the most notable realignment move in 5+ years.

Big East might stay at 11 for 20 game scheduling. If they ever go to 12 it will be Dayton if they go Catholic or another public like Wichita State or vcu. What I'm trying to say is this pretty much means st Louis is never getting in the big 12.

UConn is on the verge of joining the Big East for all sports that the conference sponsors, sources confirmed Saturday morning. Though the university is awaiting and fully expecting an official invitation from the Big East, an announcement of the Huskies' move is forthcoming.

A Big East spokesperson said Saturday morning the conference had no comment.

Congrats to VUGRAD1314 on calling it.

Seeing some quality sources saying saying it's confirmed and others saying nothing is final, but hard to imagine this doesn't happen.

Major blow for the AAC, the Shocker haters are gonna have a fun day here today

If it goes like this...

UCONN (BE)

Army\VCU (AAC)

Watch Loyola for the A10... That would cut off Dayton and SLU from the MVC as well in all likelihood because they have a successful regional rival joining them

If Loyola goes would we do the smart thing and go after basketball power (Murray State assuming they would still want to join at that point) or do we focus on "Institutional profile" and all that other presidential buzzword crap and go get someone like UIC or UWM who really don't add to the conference on the court. This is why I said that realignment favors the bold and the aggressive. Had Murray State been added alongside Valpo it may not prevent Loyola from jumping but they would at least think about it more than they will if they get the opportunity now...

UCONN never bought in to the AAC. Most fans blame the AAC for their recruiting woes while ignoring the fact that other teams in the league recruit fine. Memphis has the number one class in the nation.

With that said, depending on who the AAC backfills with it could be good or bad. One early rumor is Army for football and VCU for everything else. As a WSU fan I'd prefer that over UConn.

AAC’s first call will be to BYU FB-only. That’ll be a quick rejection. Their second call will be to Army FB-only. That’s a coinflip. If Army accepts it’ll come down to VCU, Dayton, or Saint Louis as the non-FB complement.

If Army rejects, that brings the AAC to the all-sports drawing board. Every AAC addition has followed an urban theme (except ECU but they draw 50k for FB when good) so you can rule out Southern Miss, Marshall, WKU, etc.

ODU is building a new stadium, has an AAC-esque budget, and good recruiting territory. UAB is constructing a 50k seat stadium, has past history with conferencemates, and also good recruiting territory. I’d imagine it would come down to those 2.

You can't really blame UConn for this move from a basketball standpoint. It's a significant upgrade there. Football is a different story but basketball is their calling card so to speak.

Hence why most Bradley fans don't go to that board.
