Official 2019-20 MVCfans.com Prediction - 8th Place

Each week we will open a poll for users to predict the end of season finish for the MVC 2019-20 basketball season. We will work in reverse order, concluding with the predicted MVC champion chosen by our users between the last two teams remaining in week 9.

Southern Illinois was recently selected as the likely 9th place finisher (results: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5392 )

Now it gets crazy. One game could be the difference between 8th, and 2nd. The only thing I know for sure is that the Aces will not be a Thursday team. Defense could be a possible problem, but the USI game should answer some of the questions.

Can we just skip ahead to the Top 5 where it gets interesting?

Obviously going to be 8. Indiana State, 7. Evansville, 6. Illinois State....

Not necessarily. UE fans are riled up for a good season. Might brigade ISUr in the next round to keep the Aces out of a projected Thursday finish.

Plus the informed fans who listen to March to the Arch know those guys had us fourth and will vote accordingly!

People are right to be skeptical about Indiana State, based on Lansing's body of work, including last year going off the rails in MVC play. But, as mentioned in previous threads, it's not really that much of a leap for this year's team to be pretty good. Every team has question marks, but if, say, two out of the three below are answered favorably, the Sycamores should surprise:

1. Can Jordan Barnes shake his hideous slump from MVC play last year?
2. Can the frontcourt (Kessinger and newcomers Agbo/LaRavia, etc.) be at least serviceable to supplement a promising backcourt?
3. Can one or both of last year's D-I transfers (Neese/Williams) take a significant step forward and be more consistent?

Wouldn't surprise me at all if Tyreke Key is a legit POY contender. Looking forward to seeing them play.

Agreed here. They finished non-con with a top-32 RPI so we know they’re capable. They just have to put it together. That backcourt hits the mark on both gamebreakers and depth. Key could be a 1st teamer, Barnes should ascend back to his mean, and Neese should take a significant step forward.

I actually think this is ISU’s best team since Jake Odum and they’ll be wearing whites Friday night.

Uhh, am I wrong in my belief that the "March to the Arch" pod guys are Evansville fans. IF so, why would anyone be influenced by their picking UE 4th ????
