2011 Bracketbuster Watch

I know some don't like the fact the Valley is in this but figured since we are we might as well keep tabs on it. Obviously these don't take into account last nights games and will post the new one as soon as VCU's board updates it. Or, if someone else keeps tabs on it, they can post theirs

I think the bracketbuster would be fine if they re-tooled it a bit. I wonder if there would be mid major conferences that would be more enticed to play in it if it were a bit more exclusive. Say if it were exclusive to conferences like MWC, A10, MVC and CUSA. That would be tv worthy and generate interest in all programs involved and give everyone a good game the following year. If you really needed to, you could leave some spots open for perennial top teams from lower conferences (ex. Butler, St. Marys, Gonzaga, Sienna) The BB is a great idea in theory, but you don't want to be the best conference playing in it. (kinda like the old saying: You don't want to own the most expensive house on the block) We are helping other conferences strengthen their resumes, but it isn't doing much for the MVC anymore unless you are playing one of the top 2 or 3 out of conference teams.

Then you can let all the lower conferences play each other seperately and have those top teams play during that same week as to get the best games on tv. This scenario would truly have the best chance at "bracketbusting" as we would most likely get more bids because of it depending on how strong your conference is in any given year. Let Elgin put his stamp on it so it doesn't look like he is completely bailing on his previous idea.

This would likely never happen though as some of the conferences above won't be connected to anything "mid-major" and rightfully so.

The only positive a MVC team gets out of it is that it is two less games you have to worry about scheduling. That is it. It can't help you come March. It can hurt you come March.

Just commenting on the bottom line of this, not the poster...

This sounds like what the 'high-major' schools would like to do with the NCAA Tournament. Weed out the lower schools, aka MVC, leaving only the big boys left for the "real" tournament.

Where is everyone who was in love with this BracketBuster fiasco when it was first announced?

I'm not quite sure why everyone hates this event. I know that it has helped UNI recently...Siena, Old Dominion, Bucknell...all higher profile wins. They may not be "big" names, but they were high RPI's and considered "good" wins come resume time. I get that they may not be a good idea for teams that down the list, but it really doesn't matter at that point. For the teams that are in the top 50 or 60 RPI (possible tournament teams), getting another team with a relatively similar (possibly higher) RPI can only be a good thing, right?

Of course you do have to return the game, and there is a possibility that team may not be good when you play them, but you run that shot with any team. I just don't see why so many people are against it.

Isaso- there was a reason to like it when it started. There were only 32 teams (?) and that included Gonzaga and all the games were on ESPN. What it has become hardly resembles the original product.
