The Drake!

Drake is the real deal! Finally have a team to follow in the Valley again. When this Covid crap ends, I might have to take the two hour drive over to the Rec Center of Doom and cheer on the Bulldogs! The funnest Valley fans reside in Des Moines!
There are three rules that I live by, never get less than 12 hours sleep, never gamble with a guy who has the same first name as a city and never get involved with a chick with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Stick to that and everything else is gravy!

I'm freaking there! Drake is sneaking up in Kenpom, I've seen them play twice, they're legit. I think I'll stick with calling the Knapp the Rec Center of Doom! Its got a ring to it!

There's no Shakey's or George? The town is going downhill fast! At least I can get a Maid Rite at the Merle Hay Mall.

Yep, Drake is the real deal at 11-0. I’m impressed. I’m also a little bit stunned they’re doing it with kids right out from under Valpo’s nose. 4 of the top 5 scores are in Valpo’s backyard.

All are distances from VU’s campus.
Hemphill - Gary, IN (26 miles)
Wilkins - Merrillville, IN (17 miles)
Penn - Calumet City, IL (36 miles)
Murphy - Griffin, IN (23miles)

It’s good for the MVC if Drake can keep winning and actually make whatever version of the Dance takes place.

Have loved watching Drake this year! They look really really good! Glad to see that program on solid footing! As for Valpo Valpo has never recruited its backyard particularly well historically. Local kids just don't identify with Valpo for various reasons: private religious expensive etc. The town itself is kinda looked at by those who live in the area as a bunch of snooty aloof rich people which isn't fair at all. But perception takes a long time to change and as strong as the program was in the pre MVC days plenty of coaches still tended to tell their most elite players that they can do better than Valpo which is usually true. Valpo has to go elsewhere for talent which is why they relied so heavily on international talent and later on transfers from other schools to make their name. Valpo's pipelines appear to be now mainly in Indiana Illinois Wisconsin Canada and some recruiting from other countries owing to Lottich's connections playing abroad plus a smattering of recruits from other locations (Florida Oklahoma and Ohio recently come to mind). We wish they would recruit more from the local area but really we just want to see the team win again and we don't care where the recruits come from to get there. The region flavor at Drake is nice for a budding rivalry between two pretty similar schools and certainly adds to the atmosphere at the ARC when the two schools play. I hope the region continues to be an MVC talent hotbed even if they don't end up donning the brown and gold. It's nice to have rivalries where opposing fans show up again. Valpo hasn't seen that consistently prior to joining the MVC since Butler was still a conference mate.

I am delighted to see Drake doing so well. If there are any fans who deserve some good times, it's Drake fans.

Plus, Drake is doing this after losing Robbins.

I'd even post that "It's All About the Drake" video from a few years ago, but any time I use the word "Drake" in a music search all I get is tunes by Drake, and not the basketball team.

Congrats, Bulldogs!
