MVC ranking

Postby jsaluki080 » January 30th, 2022, 8:28 am

I saw on some website ("team rankings" or something like that) that the MVC was ranked 15th. Does anybody know of this is legitimate (wouldn't surprise me, just curious) Also, I believe that this would be the lowest we've been ranked in recent-ish history, right?

The Valley is 15th in RPI, but that system has been dumped by the NCAA. The MVC is 11th in what they use now (NET). Both are on Warren Nolan.

Gotcha, Thanks. :)
I'm slightly surprised that we're 11th in NET. The MVC had a pretty bad OOC showing, right?

The OOC was disappointing for sure. Of course teams get bids not conferences but you want to maximize bids and seeding so every team has a part to play.

This sounds about right IMO. The Valley is a solid conference with solid coaching. Always seem to win a game or two in the NCAA tournament.

Everybody is in the top 200 except for boat anchor, sorry Evansville (damn autocorrect), which greatly helps the overall numbers.

Helps the numbers for the league, but unfortunately does very little for getting more teams into the NCAA Tournament. Clear separation between the top tier and the rest of the league is the way to do that.

Agreed. If UNI beats Bradley Wednesday we have that separation, the problem is that UNI, MoST and Drake didn't do anywhere near enough before the first of the year.

Very true... This had a chance to be at worst a 2-bid league, likely a 3-bid league if those three just avoided bad losses.

The OOC was kind of a dumpster fire for the whole league. Even the top team—Loyola—had to schedule San Francisco in a community college gym in in Utah the middle of the day just to get a good win. Even that one turned out to be meh. You add sickness (UNI’s guys were sick for quite a while), cancelled games, missed practices, you get a crappy OOC that drags down your numbers.
