UIC Ineligible for Horizon League Championships

Postby Adunk33 » February 9th, 2022, 9:27 am

In a childish and shitty move by the Horizon, they have decided winter/spring sports at UIC will not be allowed to compete for conference championships.

UIC's response:https://twitter.com/uicflames/status/1491424082113576961?s=20&t=eQR4Az4nZpZdQuWXwkAOxA

A solid analogy to put in perspective:https://twitter.com/NWIOren/status/1491429606045646853?s=20&t=eQR4Az4nZpZdQuWXwkAOxA

Maybe don't be dumpster fire of a league and then everybody wouldn't be jumping at the first train out.

This is a trash move and the 'adults' running the league should be embarrassed.

Apparently the Horizon blocked a bunch of big CBB twitter accounts in preparation for the announcement:

This is the kind of thing that should end any talk of future expansion including remaining Horizon League members like Northern Kentucky, Milwaukee, the Ohio schools, etc... This is a small-time, petty action and we don't need that in our conference.

:+1: Agreed, even the OVC didn't sink this low. Punishing the student athletes for the decisions of University leadership shows they have no commitment to the competitive spirit or any regard for their student athletes. It's a classless attempt to punish someone for leaving in the hopes of setting an example for future defectors. So, basically, they know they're a trash conference that members want to leave at the earliest opportunity and are resorting to punishing kids that had nothing to do with the decision to make their point.

I am sure the Horizon is saying it is UIC who is punishing their students by announcing this mid-season. Shame on all the other Horizon schools and the league office. The conference realignment train stops for no one and UIC was smart to get on when they did. This is nothing more than petty tyrants exercising their last bit of power to the detriment of student athletes.

They will say this while ignoring what they did to Butler years ago. Butler announced they were leaving a year in advance as the bylaws require. What happened? The HL banned them from postseason for their entire last season! So Butler just left for the A10 immediately. So no matter when UIC announced, they likely would’ve been banned. The only thing they could have done was wait until spring season ended…then announce they were leaving in a month or two. That would’ve hampered the Horizon even more.

As a UIC fan I am livid. That is an awful thing to do to the student-athletes that are competing for UIC and for the Horizon League right now. And not to get into specifics, but the baseball and softball team are annually at the top of the Horizon League conference and you're looking at them and saying that no matter what they do it is all for naught.

Pathetic. To the seniors on all winter and spring sports, it is a petty and childish decision made by the adults involved.

I am happy for so many reasons to be getting out of this awful league and this is just adding to that!

Any chance of an At-large for baseball or softball?

Have UIC, James Madison, and Stony Brook play a weekend round-robin in early March with the winner getting an autobid to the NIT.
