Heard parts of an interesting interview with Valley home boy Barry Hinson the other day. He's in charge of overseeing the NIL process fro Oklahoma St. What he detailed was similar to how I thought it probably was being administered. He said he looks at it as two separate functions, NIL and The Collective. He said most of what he calls NIL payments are small $100-500 type agreements between a company and an athlete, something like where an athlete shows up at sales event and signs posters etc, appears in a commercial etc. The collective is where the big $$$ are housed and can be used across all sports, but are decided upon as to where best to invest .
W/O saying it, it was pretty clear the University was very much involved and in control of who got those dollars and strategically where to target offers. I'm sure the major sports HC's have input, influence, and most likely control of the overall process. Almost like borrowing from a bank; HC says he has a need to fill, a prospect on the hook, and he needs $300,000 to get it done. Can the collective finance it. And by the way the basketball pg is voicing some displeasure, why don't we shoot him those couple sports drink promos and put a $1,000 in his pocket next week.
