Cant wait to see ryan pedons masterclass performance on the sidelines this week

2 huge games for the Aces this week in their quest to win at least 8 games in the MVC for the first time since 2016. Both of these games are winnable, but both will be very tough and who knows which Evansville team will show up.

If the Aces can win at least 8 games in the MVC this year, it will show 3 straight years of MVC improvement under Ragland. Monumental for the program.

Interesting stat I found today on the Redbirds...on the year, they have shot 75% from the FT line as a team. In conference play....72%.

Currently sitting at 15-10 (7-7), with the amount of close games they've been in (11 MVC games decided by 2 or less possessions, Redbirds are 5-6), I can only imagine if they shot 75% from the line if some of those flip and we're talking about the Birds being a shoe in for a BYE. Not saying top 2, but surely top 4.

Anyway, just something interesting I found playing the "woulda, shoulda, coulda," game this morning. They're right there but with the exception of the game at home against SIU, hasn't proven they can finish a 40 min game. Too many double digit leads have vanished in the blink of an eye.

Love the guys on the team but it's time for Pedon to take the next step as an in-game coach. His play call against UNI was a good one to get Johnny Kinziger the ball. He said after the game that he's ran that play everywhere he's been and it's the first time the ball hasn't gotten to its intended target. Why? Our big guy Chase Walker completely half assed the screen and the UNI defender ran right through it. I chalk that up to bad execution as opposed to coaching but RP hasn't proven he has what it takes sitting in the main chair on the sideline. I hope he figures it out soon.

Tough week for SIU (at Bradley, vs. Belmont) ... going 1-1 would be great and keep the Salukis in that middle-of-the-pack mix.

Wins in Peoria have been few and far between over the years (though the winter weather may hold down the crowd?), so I'm already circling the Belmont home game, and will be pleasantly shocked if things go well at Bradley.

Beyond that, three of the last four games will be against teams they are bunched up with in the standings (at Murray and Indiana State, home with Illinois State), so Southern will control its own destiny, to an extent, when it comes to realistic seeding jostling.

Kansas St knocks off #13 Arizona to reel off their 6th in a row. They’ve skyrocketed from a Q3 win to a Q1 win in 3 weeks.

I know this isn't the grind-it-out slugfest of MVC past, but Belmont will not compete for titles until they start to play some semblance of defense. Maybe that worked in the OVC when everyone but Murray sucked - but it isn't going to work in the Valley.
