I don't believe IU will go after a coach who only has one year of being a D1 coach under his belt. Money wise, yes the athletic department is in financial trouble, they could get ben fairly cheap..But I just don't see it happening. Unless Drake makes a deep run into the tournament.

He's who Dusty May and Grant McCasland go to for advice. He's not just some D2 coach. I'll be pretty surprised if he's not the guy there and he'll win big time.

The level of disrespect Mac gets as “just a D2 Coach” even after 4 D2 Nattys, being the resource top tier D1 coaches reach for to fix their offense, and going 30-3 with a roster that, on paper, is barely top half of Valley, is insane.

The man’s a genius.he gets things out of his teams other coaches could only dream of. The lack of D1 experience won’t be what keeps IU and Mac from this marriage. Not by a long shot

Welcome back to the annual "where is Drake's coach going to go?" post. I suppose McCollum could leave this year. But just like Devries it would seem out of character to pull a Keno or Niko. He spent 15 years at NWMSU. Obviously, you all know he won a lot there. Could have jumped if he wanted too. Especially after any of his four national titles, the first being way back in 2017. But he chose to wait. And actually he interviewed for the Drake spot when Devries got it. Then he waited a full six years —the entirety of the Devries tenure— to take the Drake job. It's clear he wanted to be in Des Moines.

Again, I guess he could leave and he's earned a shot. But I'd be surprised if he did.

When a Big 10 school calls, you jump. He has no allegiance to give to Drake. Take the next step.

McCollum’s calculated, and I think he’s too smart to fall for a graveyard job like Minnesota. He’ll wait for the right fit where he’s set-up for success.

Being a mid-major coach is a tough job these days. There is also a lot of luck involved even if you are a great coach. Who knows what the next 5 years could bring at Drake if he stayed. His stock is high right now and if he wins a couple games in the tournament, it can't get much higher.

Agreed about Minnesota. That's a job a guy takes to get paid for a few years only to get fired and find another mid-major job. Though I do think Minneapolis is a wonderful city - when it isn't frozen over.

Indiana, on the other hand and for all its issues over the past two decades, has the resources to compete with anyone.

I'm sold on McCollum as a coach. I think he can X and O with the best of them. DII to IU in two years would be a wild jump, but he seems like he has the chops. He'd need some big time recruiters with him, but he seems like a guy who surrounds himself with the right people.

I do not want him to leave Drake, but if he ends up at IU, I'll watch the Hoosiers play.

If the Iowa job opens up I could easily see him go there.
