I’m sure the WVU fans are reacting to this super maturely. I remember the 2007 Backyard Brawl when they burned cars and gave Pat McAfee death threats.

Talk on Drake Nation is that DeVries family didn't like Morgantown and probably drove the move more than anything.

He also interviewed for the Iowa job and that interview did not go well according to reports.

Indiana is a job that comes with high and perhaps unrealistic expectations, but even with the two-plus decades of relative irrelevance, it's a marquee college basketball job with resources that can rival anyone.

We'll see if DeVries gets them going, but I was impressed with what he did at WVU this year despite losing his two best players.

I do think it's a smart choice to make the move now. He can begin working on the roster right away and can be involved with all the top portal guys from the start.

I like the hire, but the IU job is toxic. I hope he understands what he’s getting into by going there. It’s incessant. That said, the financial backing if he wins will be substantial. The NIL is widely believed to be top 5. It’s not only winning at IU, it’s how you win and who and where the recruits come from. All Indiana Mr. Basketball winners must go to IU, or it’s on the head coach for failing to land them. The fans want Indiana to be made up of Indiana kids. That’s what he signed up for at IU. Good luck

If it doesn't work out at IU then all he would have to show for it by the end of the contract is being a multi-millionaire who can go sit on a beach every day if he wants. Sounds like a fair trade-off for having a toxic job for a few years.

100% true! The payday is enough that if you invest properly sipping drinks on the beach for the rest of your days is a real possibility. It’s why I don’t fault kids for taking the NIL money. I know I’d have loved to walked out with my degree and 300k to start my career and life. That’s a nice downpayment on a house and invest the rest. I’d recommend every kid who can get NIL money to do so.

Eerily similar in some ways to McDermott when CU went to the Big East. Devreis gets to glide into Assembly Hall with a stud son for a year. Will be interesting to see how he does, but I think he will do well.
