I think the image speaks for itself. (This is an updated version of a graphic actually used on ESPN a few days ago, but this graphic was not actually created by ESPN.) Despite Indiana State and Evansville having better seasons than their fans are used to, they aren't going to get nearly the media coverage of Purdue or Notre Dame. And the Hoosier fans took a shot in the arm tonight with the win over Illinois, IU's first win over a top 25 opponent since Kelvin Sampson was coach.

Regrettably, the statements about media coverage apply even in Terre Haute and Evansville, where the Hoosiers are likely to get coverage equal to or exceeding the hometown MVC teams.

I hate to rain on someone's parade here but Evansville's record is 11-9. If you want to throw out the opening win against a D-II opponent (Oakland City), that would make them 10-9 against D-I teams...not 10 losses.

Hm, error noted. You'd think I'd know the record of "my" team. :Bam:

Current RPI Standings:

8 - Notre Dame
12 - Purdue
42 - Butler
58 - Valparaiso
108 - IUPUI
110 - Indiana State
121 - Evansville
145 - I-Who
173 - IPFW

This lineup would actually make for a pretty competitive conference this year.

It would make a nice OOC tournament for bragging rights

Why I would agree, I don't think UE and ISU want to play each other three times in a season. Same goes for IU,PU; VU,DU; and IUPUI,IPFW.

I also left out Ball State from the list. They are 13-6.

An "All-Indiana" tournament could be done in pool play. Two pools of five teams, seeded in some fashion to prevent teams from the same conference playing each other. For example, this year, we might do:

Pool A:
1. Purdue
2. Butler
3. Indiana State
4. Ball State
5. IPFW

Pool B:
1. Notre Dame
2. Indiana
3. Valpo
4. IUPUI
5. Evansville

The tournament would be three days.
Day one games would be team 1 vs team 5 in each pool and team 2 vs team 4. Pool A team 3 plays Pool B team 3.
Day two games would be team 3 vs team 4 and team 2 vs. team 5. Pool A Team 1 plays Pool B Team 1 (national TV)
Day three games would be team 1 vs team 2, team 3 vs. team 4. Pool A team 5 plays pool B team 5.

This tournament would have 15 games. Would any reasonable promoter put this on?

Pepsi may put it on, or State Farm. It wouldn't be much of a tournament though, Notre Dame and Purdue would easily make it to the finals, unless they had to play Indiana State on their way. I would like to see Indiana State play IU in this. Notre Dame and Purdue would have a huge advantage in this, they are heads above everybody else in the state.
