Rankings Talent

In the Creighton/Bradley thread, ranking the teams in terms of overall talent has come up. Obviously this means nothing because of chemistry, weaknesses, coaching, etc. But I am interested in hearing your opinions about how you think Valley teams rank this year in terms of talent alone. Here is mine:

1. Wichita
2. Missouri State
3. Creighton
4. Northern Iowa
5. Indiana State
6. Illinois State
7. Southern Illinois
8. Drake
9. Evansville
10. Bradley (without injuries they would be top 4 in talent)

How are you defining talent? Are you talking about how good players are now, or where they could be in 2-3 years? That could affect how I would rank a veteran team or a very young team.

I would move the Trees ahead of UNI and you are about right. Based on this years ability and not potential. Potentially DU and CU have much more than we see this year.

I am just talking about this year, not looking toward the future.

I think I would disagree with this. McD is a stud, Echenique is a beast, Young is a fantastic guard, and we haven't yet mentioned the MVC Preseason Player of the Year. True, Lawson hasn't been that great, but they do have quite a bit of talent. Ashford and Korver can shoot from anywhere (except the FT line) and I think Manigat has a chance to be a very good guard in the Valley.

Listening to 8ball Creighton should win the conference tourney this year and then sweep the season and post season the next three years....

UNI should be last on this list. All I ever read about UNI players on other teams boards is how we are the "Slow, white, nonathletic, thuggish, tattooed up, luckiest team in the history of man every game" team.

Nah -- I just think they are a solid team that could be dangerous in March. GMcD is still getting settled in Omaha. Next year they could be very good.
