3 Salukis Suspended

Carbondale, Ill. - Three SIUC men's basketball players are on suspension after a Thursday night incident on campus, university athletics officials announced Friday.

Juniors Mykel Cleveland and Troy Long, and sophomore Gene Teague were cited after an incident on campus on Thursday evening. They will be suspended for three games for a violation of team rules and university conduct code, a release from Saluki Atheltics stated.

"I am extremely disappointed in the actions of our three student-athletes," said director of athletics Mario Moccia. "The incident will be reviewed by the University judicial process, and we will not discuss specifics until that process is complete."

All three players were charged with battery, according to the SIUC Department of Public Safety's daily crime log. They were issued Carbondale city notices and were release.

random tangent: the phrase "charged with battery" amuses me (yes, I'm easily amused).

As opposed to plugging into the wall outlet to charge? :mrgreen:

Quite a bit of discussion already about who we'll replace Lowery with. The problem is that after we pay him off we won't be able to afford anyone worth a damn. Rodney Watson makes sense considering his time at SIU.

Watson has shown that he can handle a head coaching job with what he has done in his first year at Southern Indiana. I would think he would be a good choice and I'm sure he would jump at the chance.

I'm really not sure if coach Watson would jump at the chance to coach in the MVC. I mean, SIU passed him over ... was it two or three times? And if he took the job this coming off season, he could get a reputation for turning around "broken" programs, if you will.
