Since getting beaten at home by WSU and MSU (both games they had comfortable leads in the second half) Creighton has laid fewer and fewer eggs. The Bradley game was a debacle and unexcusable, but at the same time they also led at ISU-B, UNI, MSU and WSU leading to the final possessions. Pure luck would determine that at least one of those losses would have resulted in a win this year, but luck didn't pan out for Creighton this year.
Luck won't even out in St. Louis, either because it isn't just luck. This team doesn't know how to finish. It is a confidence issue. If I were McDermott, I would switch gears right now. I would tell the kids to just play well and have fun. I would beg Korver to take the open shot, I would tell the guys not to even worry about making or missing free throws, I'd simply tell them to try as hard as they could and to have fun on the floor. And I would beg and beg and beg for Korver to shoot the ball. I don't know who has passed up more open looks, Korver this year or Dotzler two years ago.
And I would abandon the stall offense, it is hurting more than it helps.
That said, Creighton will beat UNI and lose to Missouri State, but it will be a heart wrenching, give up the lead at the end, kind of loss. Shocker fans will be in attendance with popcorn in hand.
