Creighton WON'T win Arch Madness

Postby 3ontheway » February 28th, 2011, 1:04 pm

I think they will be pretty good next year, but this year has been not so good, so I want to go on the record and say that they WILL NOT win Arch Madness this weekend.

in light of some other threads recently started, I thought the prudent, most karma friendly, thing to do was to start this thread. I do happen to also think that CU won't win it, fwiw.

While I think Creighton is more talented than their record indicates, winning 3 against Northern Iowa, MSU and WSU potentially in 3 days is a tough draw. However, next year they may be the favorites.

I agree totally....CU couldn't have gotten a tougher draw...but I am still going to say that somehow/someway they get their St. Louis magic together this weekend and pull this thing out.

Creighton will not win the thing. that said, they are the team that absolutely scares the bejeezers out of everybody. Since getting beaten at home by WSU and MSU (both games they had comfortable leads in the second half) Creighton has laid fewer and fewer eggs. The Bradley game was a debacle and unexcusable, but at the same time they also led at ISU-B, UNI, MSU and WSU leading to the final possessions. Pure luck would determine that at least one of those losses would have resulted in a win this year, but luck didn't pan out for Creighton this year.

Luck won't even out in St. Louis, either because it isn't just luck. This team doesn't know how to finish. It is a confidence issue. If I were McDermott, I would switch gears right now. I would tell the kids to just play well and have fun. I would beg Korver to take the open shot, I would tell the guys not to even worry about making or missing free throws, I'd simply tell them to try as hard as they could and to have fun on the floor. And I would beg and beg and beg for Korver to shoot the ball. I don't know who has passed up more open looks, Korver this year or Dotzler two years ago.

And I would abandon the stall offense, it is hurting more than it helps.

That said, Creighton will beat UNI and lose to Missouri State, but it will be a heart wrenching, give up the lead at the end, kind of loss. Shocker fans will be in attendance with popcorn in hand.

It drove me nuts all the times Korver passed up open 3's this year. He can certainly knock them down and we were missing that this year with Wragge out. So I hope in St. Louis he just lets it fly if he has a wide open look. Keep the D's honest.

And I hope your last statement is wrong, last thing I want to do is give WSU fans anything to cheer about. :) Half would be cheering because they despise CU other half because they don't want to play us in St. Louis.

I really won't have any idea of who to cheer for between SWOMO and CU. Usually every other game I have "a team," but with SWOMO and CU, I think I'll just try and enjoy the game.

I agree that CU is a scary team in this tourney, but let's not just walk past UNI. While I agree that things have not gone well since the loss of O'Rear, I can't rule them out in the 1st round game, especially coming off the loss Saturday. UNI is well coached and I imagine this will be a heck of a game 4/5 games are always classics!

I think CU could win this tournament, but one thing has to happen. We need to beat UNI easily, and beat up on them early and have a big halftime lead. The reason this is important is we need to rest Antoine for games against MSU and potentially WSU. I would like to see us be up double digits at half and expand that lead and have Jahenns play point most of the second half. IF Antoine can play less then 30 minutes in this game, Jays are in good shape for Saturday.
