MVC Baseball

With the season less than a month away, I figured it was time to talk a little baseball. I don't know what kind of team MSU will have but it seems like there will be a lot of pressure on Coach Guttin behind the scenes. Evidently Mr. Moats our AD is not thrilled with how things went last season. I expect the boys to bounce back this season though, everything seeemed to go against them last year. Haven't really followed much other Valley teams, but I have an acquantance that is a huge Shocker fan and he was saying that they only hit the ball out of the infield a handful of times with those new bats in the fall. Might be something to watch this year, though I didn't hear of MSU having that same issue.

Indiana State is supposed to have a very good baseball team. We return a lot of young players, and we have a lot of new pitchers and very good ones. We will be a force to reckon with this year, as we always are in baseball.

Evidently not that well respected as they are picked 4th in the MVC Power Rankings and they have no players on the pre-season all-mvc team. Typically the No. 4 MVC team is around a 200 RPI team and not a force to be reckoned with.

UE could be in a bad spot already. The starting pitchers in the first two games of the season at Memphis both had to be pulled due to injury. One hurt his arm (not sure how badly) and the other took a flyball to the head ... checking him out for concussion, I suppose, haven't heard anything officially

Looked like they struggled against Dallas Baptist, but it's not uncommon for Northern teams to struggle against Southern teams early in the season due to not being outside much yet.

Bears started horribly, but rebounded to sweep this weekend, including wins over Dallas Baptist and Texas-Arlington (decent program). Record now stands at 4-3, and the hitting looks to be much improved up and down the roster. Need to stay healthy as they're light on pitching, and don't have any real dominant starters, at least projected wise.

Indiana State did struggle with Dallas-Baptist and in the third game at Tennessee Martin. Our pitching is very young. And that will catch up to us eventually. But we are a very good hitting team. Should be an interesting season though.

GO TREES!!!!

Jays are starting off well at 7-1. They've beaten Kansas, New Mexico, Canisius and Toledo which I don't think are good teams but they are wins atleast...

Better to be 7-1 than not 7-1, even if poor teams.

Bears won at Oklahoma State last night for the first time in their history. Ok State was 6-1, with only loss being to Dallas Baptist (whom the Bears crushed against their Friday starter).

Good wins over Dallas Baptist, Oklahoma State, and Texas State thus far. Bad loss to Air Force to start the year. Bears are traditionally a slow starting team, so nice to see them out at 5-3. Home opener this weekend in a series against winless North Dakota, so would like to get that winning streak to seven this weekend.
