MVC Indoor Track and Field Championships

They start tomorrow in the Dome.

On the Mens side, Indiana State is favored and looks to have the most depth, WSU is picked Second and SIU picked third. Nobody was picked the clear favorite and it will be a tight meet the whole way through.

On the Womens side, WSU is favored to win while SIU is picked second followed by Illinois State. WSU should win this but you never know.

UNI is still trying to recover from the three coaches in three years, which left them with not alot of depth. The Men are picked Fourth while the Women are picked fifth. I think UNI will end up third at worst on the mens side. Have quite a bit of power at the top but they probably don't have the depth to compete for the title this year, IMO, although they have only 3 seniors so they are very young.

Should be a great meet.

already trouble for UNI as Daniel Gooris is eaither hurt or sick, as he has set season lows in his first three events of the Heptathlon, and they weren't even close. That will cost UNI some points and really help out WSU as they will control the Heptathlon.

edit: I just read that Gooris is competing with a sprained ankle. Pretty good to get 5th in the Pole Vault.

Strike, did you go to the meet? I didn't make it over this year, I might be there for the outdoor meet.

Regardless, in one of the closest indoor meets ever on the men's side Indiana State wins its' first ever indoor title, by 4.5 points over SIU, it all came down to the last 4 * 400 relay and INS won it to secure the win.

On the women's side, WSU ran AWAY with it, not even close.

Congrats to the Indiana State Men and Wichita State Women on MVC championships.

That men's 4x4 was intense. Heading in SIU was 1/2 a point up over ISU, while UNI was six and a half points back, and WSU was 9 1/2 back. so mathmatically, four teams could have won, although it would have taken alot for either WSU or UNI to win. The race was close between ISU, SIU and UNI until UNI pulled up with an injury and wasn't able to finish. ISU just held off SIU for the win and the championship. UNI unfortunately did not get points for the DNF and finished fourth, but just 16 back of the winner. Crazy to look at all the little things that could have gone one way or the other and made it a completely different meet. WSU women won going away as expected.

the meet itself was a blast to watch and people who don't want to go to championship trck meets are really missing out IMO.

actually Indiana State held a 1/2 point lead on SIU before the 4 * 400, either way, it was a VERY close meet. Indiana State also had some weird things happen, the DMR was on its' way to a win when the 800 runner got tripped, 2 of INS's open 800 runners got tripped up in the prelims. And in the men's 3000 the bell was rung a lap early and INS's best 3000 runner (who was in high scoring position) slowed up with a lap to go and never recovered.

to me the biggest shocker to me was INS's long jumpers, before the MVC meet their longest jump of the season had been 23' 00", and in the finals 4 INS jumpers sailed way beyond that mark, that may have been the difference that gave INS the title, no way were all those points expected from them, 3 freshman and 1 sophomore too.
