Avila is rated as the sixth-best player in the state of Illinois and the 54th-best power forward nationally by 247Sports.com.

Avila earned First team All-State accolades from the Champaign News-Gazette in 2021 after averaging 25.8 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 65 percent from the field.

Avila held offers from other Missouri Valley programs including Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, Bradley, and Loyola and is the first NLI signee for Schertz.

UNI wanted him BAD.

He's going to be a dynamite playing in the Valley. So much Seth Tuttle in him. Just a really skilled and smooth big that's really comfortable facing up.
