Bears land NY PG

Appears the Bears have landed Tevin Bracey, a 6'3 pg from Westchester CC in NewYork. Bracey averaged 8ppg, but a national 3rd best 7.8 assists pg on a team with 5 double digit scorers this past season.

Fantastic get for the Bears. If he picks up the system quickly the Bears will be competitive.

Not alot of background on the kid; he was injured as a frosh and didn't play much at another juco, then transfered to Westchester. Was an "all-region" pick and supposedly recruited by St. Johns some and then Lavin called Lusk to take a look. At this point we needed someone with a little experience to add to redshirt frosh Dorrian Williams, frosh Marcus Marshall, and Anthony Downing. This allows Downing and the 6'3 Marshall[ who can really shoot the ball] to probably focus primarily at the 2 spot, and Williams and Bracey to handle the point.

I think this is a really solid pick up for the Bears. It sounds/looks like this kid is a "true" pg that thinks pass first and can finish at the rim. My only concern is his fg % which was 43%. Hopefully he improves on that. As much as I liked Biz last year at times he really hurt us on the offensive end (just didn't shoot well most games). But this kid has a much better FT % than Biz did which is encouraging.

The best thing about this is it should allow Downing who is arguably our best player to play the 2 which is his more natural position.
