WSU Gets Commit From Top-150 SF

Postby Aargh » October 26th, 2014, 11:39 am

Markis McDuffie, 6'7", 185 SF from New Jersey has committed to WSU. He's a consensus top-150. Scout and ESPN have him as a top-100 player.

Shox were in on a top-40 combo guard from Houston (WSU, Texas, Cal were his final 3) who committed to Texas. WSU already hs 2 CG's in the 2015 class, so adding a decent SF was a higher priority.

This should be the end of the recruiting

Don't want to build this up too much yet but a couple of interesting comments that make me extremely happy include Adam Kline who said that he may have the growth potential to grow a couple of inches and Coach Hurley from St. Anthony's made some comparisons of Markis and Kevin Durant (same style of player). He is quite lean but with increased strength and explosiveness, almost everyone has his game with a very high ceiling and tremendous player growth to come. This is very exciting.

Recent history would suggest not.

A March 1 article on McDuffie now lists him at 6-9 and stated that he's averaging 15 and 7 for St Anthony prep (#7 team in the nation)

“He’s been brilliant,” Hurley said. “He is so active for his size. He’s agile. He’s big, but he’s still growing. He’s a very graceful player. He’s a finesse player, but he’s a dangerous player. There aren’t many who can go outside and shoot the three [3-point shot] and then go inside. It’s been a constant progression for him...We’re also startingKaleb Bishop now, so that allows Markis to play the three [small forward], which is his natural position and where he’ll play in college.”

“The 6-foot-9 sharpshooter has basically done his job as a player in his own way..."He’s going to get bigger,” Hurley said. “He still probably has two inches of growing left, which will make him a realistic 6-foot-10 or 6-foot-11. He needs to get a little more meat on his bones, but he’s still amazingly strong for a skinny kid. He has a bright future.”
