Suellentrop article on recruiting and social media problems

Paul wrote a nice article and blog entry regarding WSU's recruitment of star Perry Ellis and the steps they have taken to remind boosters and fans that they cannot communicate or encourage recruited athletes via social media outlets such as facebook and twitter. It's useful reading for everyone in my opinion.

Social media can get athletes in trouble if they don't think before they write their thoughts for the world to see.

College fans need to be careful, as well. They can cause problems for the very institution they want to help

Fans can put Wichita State in a bad position with Facebook pages or Twitter messages. So if you’re considering using your Internet skills to help the Shockers recruit a future basketball star (such as Heights senior Perry Ellis), the Shockers want you to cease and desist. It’s a potential NCAA violation.

3. A booster MAY NOT contact a prospect via social media and encourage them to enroll at the school you support, even if you don’t think you qualify under the definition of the term “booster.” Assume that you meet the definition and avoid contacting prospects.
