Exactly what I said. CU fans were more excited for the "spurning" of WSU than for getting the kid themselves.

I don't think the quotes are the same at all. LMS (is that really you Matt?) is saying that the thread reached 5 pages because two schools were the finalists for the same kid and naturally, the posting volume would be higher when two fanbases both are really interested in the same kid. In other words, if only one team was involved, the posts would be primarily limited to fans of that particular school, hence less posting volume.

When you beat out another team in the same conference for a kid, I think it is only natural that excitement is a touch higher because not only did you get the kid, but a conference opponent, that you have to play at least twice a year, did not. When the kid is highly regarded like Chatman, that is magnified even more. It isn't beating out WSU in particular, it is beating out a fellow conference school that had been recruiting the kid for close to two years when you have only been involved for a couple of months! That is not an easy task to accomplish.

So it's more about the rivalry and less about the actual player?

Creighton has recruited six kids for the 2011 class since McDermott and Lutz came to Omaha and they got four of them. Chatman was their top PG prospect and they took him from a team who had maybe taken him for granted (if you look at this thread, at least) and assumed he was going to Wichita after recruiting him for two years. Austin is going to be awesome in Bluejay gear.

Plus, can it be a rivalry if only one team thinks it is (Perrault notwithstanding)?
