Creighton Bluejays @ Northern Iowa Panthers - 1/26/2011

Postby UNI » January 24th, 2011, 8:50 am

Two days until Dougie Fresh comes back to Cedar Falls. I am hoping the fans give him a really good welcome.

I think this will be a tough game. Creighton has A LOT of inside game, something that UNI doesn't have. Hopefully O'Rear and Pehl can hold their own. If our guard play stays consistent with what it has been lately, it could be a great night to be a Panther.

However, I can easily see the inside game taking over for Creighton.

I think this will be a close game. I am hoping we continue to take care of the ball, hit our free throws, and control the tempo. It seems like that is our keys every game.

I just hope for the sake of the Valley as a whole that the UNI fans show some class in regards to the McDermotts. I'm not crazy about Greg but Doug is an 18 year old kid and doesn't deserve to hear some of the stuff that the panthernation people will deliver. The funny thing about it is that I'm sure Ben and his team will show great sportsmanship so that should make for an interesting contrast. If any of you remember what it was like for Kevin Love when he played at Oregon (his dad played there and he grew up in that state) then I think this will be a similar situation. Oregon received a ton of negative press for the signs, voice mails, threats, etc. I just hope no one in the crowd decides to get physical or anything. End of rant on this subject.

I see an inspired CU led by Doug coming out with the W. CU will control tempo and the master will show the pupil a thing or two. They nearly overcame a hostile crowd in Springfield and so they'll be well seasoned for a smaller although more volatile crowd in Cedarloo or whatever they call it.

Well for the sake of the Valley, the McDermott's are going to get treated very poorly.

#1- We've always hated Creighton.
#2- A lot of people were mad when Greg went to ISU, now he goes to a conference foe and takes our best recruit.....don't expect a plate of cookies.

And Mcdermott whines the entire game. Most annoying coach to play against. I was so happy when he left the valley, and he finds a way to come back. I hope he gets 3x the heckling that any other coach gets when he's on the road. He deserves it.

Exactly. I couldn't stand that when he was here, now it's even more annoying.

Hey I understand both of those points even I don't totally grasp the vitriol. My issue would mostly be with Doug. It seems that a lot of people are really directing their anger at him. And that I don't understand because he was just following his dad. I know he has a lot of friends there in that area and I don't think it is fair for people to boo Doug. So UNI fans am I wrong on this one? Who do you despise more Greg or Doug or both equally?

Both equally

Doug signed a freaking LOI with UNI...you know a contract. G$ decided to take Creighton's money and run and promised to bring his son with him.

Doug is 18 freaking years old, he isn't a 10 month old baby that needs to be coddled. I hope Luke hits him with a high elbow. The flagrant would be worth it.

G$ telling Jake to "take his coach hat off and put his friend hat on" when deciding if we should release Lil' Douggy from his LOI is a bunch of ****. Why doesn't G$ put his freaking "friend hat" on and keep Doug out of the line up?

Is Creighton everyone's rival? I never knew that before and I always laughed a little when wichita State fans would chime in with the "We get everyone's "A" game" stuff, but I am starting to see some of the same treatment for Creighton. Don't worry UNI fans, as a team, Creighton is not that good yet. They are getting better every week and will be a threat in St Louis, but right now, they find ways to lose close games and turn games that they are winning into routs the other way.

As for hating on McDermott, if UNI didn't hire McDermott, then Mcermott wouldn't have left for Iowa State and Ben wouldn't be your coach. You guys would still be seeking a coach that would implement "your" system. Your system and your coach are both descendents of the man you now hate.

I take UNI by 8. Creighton is about three weeks away from jelling or the total collapse from too many close losses.

UNI fans here need to get a grip. He's a kid who made a decision to be coached by his dad and it's hard to argue that he made the right decision based on what we've seen so far.

Do you mean that to say he wouldn't be putting up similar numbers at UNI this year? We could really use a scorer with his size this year.

I don't hate them, and if Greg had gone to a Mid-Major outside the MVC and Doug went with him, I would be sad to see him go, but understand. But to go to a conference rival, take our best recruit after it is too late to find a replacement and make us play against him twice or three times a year is what bothers me. That and Greg (to my knowledge) has never publically acknowledged what a difficult position he put the UNI program in. He talks about his friendship with Ben, and that's all fine and good, but IMO he owes the UNI Athletic Department, the current team, and our fans an apology.
