No need to throw 'bows, that dude is so ugly I'd punch myself instead of looking at him.

UNI fans and players will have a little extra emotion coming into this game, but nothing dirty or out of line will go down. Jacobson is too classy to allow his players to take cheap shots and UNI fans just aren't the type to cross the line by issuing threats, throwing things, ect. I expect a little extra heckling and excessive booing but nothing more.

GMac is the type of person to put his friend in a terrible situation and take advantage of his alma mater. He's proven time and again he is an inherently selfish person. UNI fans are sick of his tactics and this last move was final straw so to speak.

On a side note, this thread appears to be HOT HOT HOT!!! Gota love a good rivalry in the making. ;)

Nothing dirty will happen. No UNI player will be throwing any elbows at Doug. Doug still occasionally talks to some of them on twitter and they seem to have maintained a friendly relationship through this. Ben and the players will be respectful.

-Little dougie was the key player in our plan to replace a graduating front court.

-Little dougie was released from his LOI without any consequences (special treatment). The MVC lost all testicular fortitude when they decided to wave the in conference transfer rule and let little dougie play this year.

Do UNI fans really think Doug would picked UNI because he likes the facilites? the education? the city? Lets be honest the only reason he choose you is because the relationships "Mc$" built with the school and the staff.

P.S. On the you're our rival list UNI ranks behind: SIU, WSU, and probably Drake for most Jays fans. I'm sorry we cannot return your love. 8-)

I think if you take off your UNI glasses the following is what you will see. Let me preface this by saying that I am no fan of Creighton and thoroughly cannot stand them due to various atrocities committed by $19.95 Stafford shirt guy Dana Altman. However McDermott while kind of shady doesn't come out of this looking as bad as jilted UNI fans.

McDermott gets a chance to coach at a bigger, better place in Iowa State. Anyone who does not have a degree from UNI on their wall or a UNI shirt in their closet totally understands. ISU has a bigger budget, better facilities, more fans, and they play in league with Kansas and Texas. Greg gets a chance to take care of his family with a bigger payday too. Relative no brainer to most that he would jump.

We flash forward a few years and things have not gone as well in Ames as Greg would have liked. He knows that he is likely getting fired after the 2010-2011. He is ready to fight for ISU though and is clearly committed to them. Then every coach in America not named Greg McDermott turns down Oregon's money, except Altman. He knows that Phil Knight's money can buy a lot of Stafford shirts and he can't turn that down. Creighton is a Jesuit school or so I am told and some priest or whatnot (not sure of the proper nomenclature) contacts Greg McDermott and offers him the CU job. Now, what would you do? You are a year away from being unemployed barring a miracle. Would you tell them "Nah, I'd prefer to get fired in Ames." No, of course not. No sane person would stay. He did what was best for him and his family. And how feasible is it at this point for a father to go up against his son at least 8 times in the following four years? Not very feasible.

Yet today we have UNI fans demanding some form of tribute from McDermott. Some want his son not to play, some want an apology, and yet some still want his head. So UNI fan from panthernation, bastion of basketball knowledge and awesomeness tell me what would yo do differently if you were Greg? Or Doug for that matter?

Creighton is more "UNI-Western Campus" than a rival... You have a Panther AD, Panther Head Coach, two Panther Assistant Coaches, and former Panther NLI signee. :buddies: I kid.

I think this is going to be a fantastic game. Both teams know exactly what the other wants to do and it will come down to execution. Free throws will probably decide it.

The part I highlighted is where you are off. It wasn't Creighton who made the initial contact, it was G$. He did so and indicated he would be able to bring his son as well, PRIOR to contacting Ben or UNI. Shopping his son around for his own gain? ...Hmmm, got Mr. Newton banished from attending his son's games at Auburn, should be fitting for this as well.

The conference rule is that if you sign a letter of intent to one member institution and then transfer to another, you sit out TWO years. That is what should have happened here, and I think UNI fans would have been disappointed, but at least accept that the rules were mainly followed. Instead you have one person taking extreme advantage of a "friendship" over another. Of course, I am sure that G$ will be sure to back off if there is ever a top-notch recruit that is down to just UNI or Creighton, you know, out of "friendship."

One is no 'friend' of mine, one is no 'son' of my university. Both will be treated as enemies accordingly.

Just some facts and one question;

Doug was offered a greyshirt to go to Creighton. He wan't even offered a full ride. The talk was could he get a discount on his tuition and thus save us a schollie. I heard Greg say he intended to redshirt him before the start of practice. How then was he the best recruit in the MVC? Sure he is playing great right now, but no one, including his own dad thought he would be this good.

OK, back to throwing elbows and made up stuff.

My understanding was that CU contacted him first. Greg was putting out feelers to various places via his agent, which is somewhat shady, but not really terrible because it was his agent not him. The part about the guarantee of Doug from what I recall is conjecture. CU people say he didn't UNI fans say he did. I know that he did some interview with some entity in Omaha immediately and spoke about Doug joining him prior to any real public knowledge that UNI was going to let him out of his LOI. That is also shady. I agree with some of what you are saying, he is no saint but dude's gotta get paid. He ain't gonna do commentary and the Wartburg job wasn't open. I mean it's a bum deal for UNI for sure, but you have to get over it at some point I'd think. When Buzz Peterson left Missouri State, I got over that one pretty quick even though I was initially very angry.

Man where do you guys get this stuff? Creighton's AD called Greg within 24 hours of hearing Dana was leaving. No feelers or agents. Our AD has liked Greg for years. He is on record as saying he was CU's number one and only choice.
