What is so desirable about GCU's financial situation? I think you are looking too much at the stock value instead of the value of the underlying assets. That's what you need to look at because GCU is still wants to return to their non-profit status.

North and South Dakota State will be the next powers in Mid-Major basketball. They will ramp up spending to the 2.5-3.0 million range, and will be challenging the top level. These are primary State universities with major fan support, not directionals and small privates. These schools have fully funded athletic departments with FCOA, they are not one sport wonders. They can challenge P5 schools regularly, pick your sport. Yet the MVC seems more threatened by this than recognizing this as a significant opportunity.

Budget doesn't mean a thing, as evidenced by the fact that the University of Texas has one of the highest budgets for just about all sports, but their Basketball program only has glimpses of greatness every 5-10 years.
