Dollars per Win

With men's basketball budget of $1.97 million, UNI spent $70,000 per win last year, "best" in the NCAA.

I see both sides of this... The optimist in me says, "see, you don't have to spend like the big boys to win at this game."

The other side says "we've gotten lucky with a great coach and if we don't increase our budget we won't survive the next coaching change someday."

Probably a little truth in both sides of the argument.

You guys have one of the best coaches in the MVC. I think Jacobsen is better than McDermott overall.
But, you are right too in thinking that you might lose out if you don't up the ante to your basketball program in the future.

I agree, Jacobson does alot w/very little. They have Kwadzo and a bunch of role players and they still find a way to stay near the top of the league.

Are UNI fans worried that Jacobsen might see the writing on the wall with Kwadzo and seniors heading out and so he'll take the first BcS offer that comes along? I don't know what the recruiting scene looks like but without KA and the Amish-bearded/mullet-headed one I don't see them staying in the top half next year.

If Jacobson didn't leave after last season, I can't see him leaving now. His stock was as high as it will ever be after the 2009-10 season.

Even without Ahelegbe and O'Rear, I'm guessing that UNI will be upper half of the MVC again next year. A lot of folks predicted that they'd drop a lot this season without Koch, Eglseder and Farokhmanesh. Jacobson has a system that works, and his players grow into it.

Next year UNI will be right about where they are now. Missing KA will hurt but overall they will have about the same amount of experience. They will start slow, as every Jacobson team that has ever existed has, but play better as the year goes along. The following year (Koch, James, Sonnen, and Pehl's senior year) the pieces are in place for another shot at a run like they had last year.

This bang for the buck article doesn't mean much really. It only takes last year into account, and didn't look at any other factors that would go into discovering which school really did have the most "bang for the buck." It's just something the writer could do that would require minimal time and research and he could publish something for the website.

Jake is 100% committed to this program right now. So much so that HE went to our AD after the KU win last year, and asked for a new deal to get done immediately, just so everybody at UNI and anybody that might want to interview him knew that he wasn't going to go anywhere.

Eventually, he may want to move on and try something new, but as of now I expect him to be around for several more years.

Pretty decent recruits coming in. If we can do this well this year without and inside game, we should be ok going forward.

If Altman can leave Creighton after 10+ years than dont be suprised if Ben leaves. He can pull a Keno and leave soon, or stay around awhile, just to find out that there possibly is a ceiling to the success the team can have and go for bigger and better. Not saying any one of those will happen, just saying don't be surprised if it does..

Yes, everybody at UNI is pretty excited about the class we have coming in next year. I would expect UNI to be pretty good next year again, with a chance to be really good in two years.
