Did Air Force almost join the MVC in 2011?

Reading this Denver Post interview with Air Force AD in October 2011, it seems like AFA FB to Big East (with Army/Navy) and BB to MVC was a done deal. But Army got cold feet before the trigger was pulled.

Nope not a done deal. AFA athletic director talked it up at the time and thought it would be a done deal. However, MVC was not interested. What would the academy have brought to the Valley but an expanded footprint?

As the saying goes, the AFA athletic director got out ahead of his skis.

Might have helped Wichita stay?

Air Force basketball ain't helping anybody. I suspect Elgin gave them a quick "lol, no" before hanging up the phone.

The Summit was desperate for members at the time. That's where they would have ended up which would have been a colossal mistake.

That was the stupid time of realignment when the Big East was going to keep football and be spread from New Jersey to South Florida to Boise to San Diego.

I'm in Colorado Springs and don't remember hearing any discussion of this. It wouldn't be attractive for either side. Hans Mueh wasn't the brightest bulb.
