ESPN+

Discuss the MVC hoops season here.

ESPN+

Since it seems all MVC games will be moving there, I caved and bought ESPN+ for $50/year.

Pleasently surprised.
- Litany of games for several conferences. Don’t care about baseball, but this will be huge once hoops (and FB) rolls around.
- CBC Canadian broadcast of Vegas/Winnipeg and other Stanley Cup Playoff games. Significantly better than the American broadcasts. Felt like a whole new sport under the Canadian presentation.
- Lots of worldwide soccer.
- Lots of rugby.
- Some MLB.
- Some NBA.
- All the OJ specials.
- Ton of 30 for 30’s.
- Miscellaneous stuff (Auto Racing, Boxing, Golf, Tennis, E:60, Fantasy Football, etc.)

Free trial currently available. Not sure if it’ll still be there in the fall. Otherwise, set an alert to order it on November 6 and a second alert to cancel it on March 5 and you’ll get the entire college hoops season for $20 ($5/month). Don’t need cable subscription to purchase unlike espn3.

What's changed? Will the games be on Watchespn as usual? Usually you get it if you have espn on your TV source who ever that may be.

So now they use our students for all their tech work and operating cameras and want MORE money--screw 'em

No, you will have to pay to see games that were on espn3, now on espn3...so most of the games. Only games you can see now is espn, espn2, csn.

Last year almost all of the MVC's baseball games were on ESPN3. Now they rarely are and if they are you have to pay to see them on ESPN+. (I get ESPN3 for free through my i-net provider.) It's pretty irritating honestly. I'm not paying to watch the games. I'll just listen to the games through Tunein if I have to.

I'd like to see the MVC start a network like the OVC has. Broadcasts for conference football, men's basketball, and baseball games at the very least would be nice. The other sports don't really matter that much tbh. Also please spare me the argument about the MVC not sponsoring football. The MVC and MVFC run out of the same office and have the same name except for the word "Football".

The games on ESPN 3 are still free [ actually never have been as you pay for a provider] but fewer and fewer MVC games are there and probably none in the future. But you do have to pay the $5 to get ESPN + to get the now expanded menu of college and pro sports it has which will be most of the MVC sports.

I get nobody likes paying $$, but it's a superior format and service to what ESPN 3 was, and as noted above has some great archive materials and is the precursor to what will evolve when FOX SPORTS combines in the next couple years. Again just cut the cable, get something like sling or utube tv, add the $5 ESPN + and you're still ahead dollar wise.

I guess I did not make myself perfectly clear--the deal has been SIU STUDENTS DO MOST OF THE WORK ON OUR ESPN3 BROADCASTS AND IN EXCHANGE ESPN Gets revenue from adds and not have to invest much--now they want more money--screw em

I haven't seen anything that suggests MVC MBB/FB will be moving to ESPN+ yet. I know they've been trying it out with SB, baseball, track, etc.

Hopefully men's hoops and football aren't effected but I'll assume they will be. Kind of a crappy way for a money grab but it's not too expensive. I don't have cable and this is still A LOT cheaper than getting cable.

Someone mentioned students working on the ESPN3 broadcast, I noticed that during the past few years. I'm curious which schools use professional broadcasters vs students for men's basketball and football?

Illinois State uses pro's for the commentators but students for a lot of the camera work for the two previously mentioned sports, and WBB for sure. I'm not sure about baseball/sb.

We have grown to accustomed to getting free content on the internet. Via newspapers online, streaming of games, etc. Those days are going away. Rightfully so.

I have no issue paying to watch a game when I live two stats away. There is a cost to produce it, distribute it, etc. I don't think $5.99/month is a lot to pay. I also pay to subscribe to the Athletic and a few newspapers I like to read. If I want quality content I have no issue paying for it.
